Legalize it Already

zappas - watermark and I had recently determined that no one could be as stupid as usfreedom and that he was just trolling. Are you meaning to suggest (based on your prior history with him) that he may in fact be this stupid to not understand basic statistics?

Oh he understands.

He is just so stubborn and pig-headed, that he absolutely will not admit when he is wrong.

He will continue to microscrutinize the topic until he has others discussing some ridiculous, minute subsection of a single phrase from a single post someone else made in order to deflect from the basic fact that he was wrong.

He will make multiple points in a single post and when you attempt to discuss, he will seize on whichever portion you don't respond to and ignore your responses to the other points he raised.

And of course, when that all fails, he will fall bck on the taunts and derision.

Sounds a lot like the poster "Dixie" here. He once said that 1/3 times 3 doesn't equal 1. This has literally lead to threads with thousands of posts of us offering multiple proofs that 1/3 = 0.33333e and 1 = 0.999999e, and therefore 1/3 * 3 = 1, where he has refused to listen to any evidence and has kept on in his belief than 1 broken into three parts and then put back together again doesn't equal one. I am being serious here.

I gave my finals speech on Marijuania legalization. Everybody laughed when they saw what it was about, but I made serious arguments and I think it pulled off well. It's not considered the crazy idea it once was, nor is it only thought that only drug heads who want cheaper access to their habit support it.

Every year Gallup has been polling the issue, the number of people supporting legalization has increased. It's still not a majority or plurality, but if the trend holds there will be a majority within 20-30 years. I imagine young people are far more pro-legalization than older folks.

I am confident that it will happen at least within my lifetime, maybe surprisingly soon.

I am also confident it will happen in my lifetime

What stopped all those users, from the 60's and 70's, from getting it legalized prior to today, seeing as how they've been of voting age all those years??

The dinosaurs in Congress, the Christian right, the Reagan generation and "Just Say No".

Carter almost legalized it, but the alcohol lobby got it killed!

Carter was going to decriminalize it.

I don't thing there's ever been a presidency that had more promise but failed more miserably that Carters. He couldn't control anything. He just wasn't a leader.

They did alcohol and tobacco. By growing it like tobacco, they could make it more cost effective to buy it over the counter than to grow it. It would make the black market unattractive, also.

Dixie Too (two)?

You are wasting your time.

This has been USFree's standard tactic for YEARS.

He uses deflection and derision every time it becomes apparent he is wrong about some point.

Then maybe you can tell me, Zap, how .00006 of the population is an accurate example??

If nothing else, doing so will provide me more amusement and will keep you occupied.

DAMN, I've been outed!!
OH-WOE IS ME!!

People have used protests as a way to represent public opinion, so I guess they can also be seen as a poll.

Since the Population of Maricopa Couinty, AZ was around 4,000,000, in 2008, and we recently had 2,000 protesters march, in protest against Sheriff Joe; I guess that would mean that the majority of Maricopa County want Sheriff Joe removed from office.

But all those "free spirits" were the ones voting them in, so why didn't they vote in someone that thought they way they did??

"Just Say No" refers to drug education (DARE, GREAT, et. al.) and had nothing to do with criminalization and prohibition.

Why didn't they do justice and hang him?

That two thousand isn't representative of the population at large. There's a huge difference between a scientific poll and picking up people off of a demonstration, or even picking 2000 people randomly. The 2K people are chosen specifically to represent the population at large. There will be roughly as many Democrats and Republicans, minorities, and such as the population at large. This is not a perfect process, which is why there is a margin of error that is clearly and plainly stated. But it is a reasonably accurate way of measuring the will of the population at large.
