Speaking from Puerto Rico, Puerto Rican born and raised, Colonel Michael A. Valle is responsible for Hurricane Maria relief efforts. Since the ‘apocalyptic’ Cat 4 storm tore into the spine of Puerto Rico on September 20, Col. Valle has been to helping.

Col. Valle is a firsthand witness of the U.S. response supporting FEMA in Puerto Rico, and as a Puerto Rican himself with family members living in the devastation, his passion for the people is second to none.

“It’s just not true,” Col. Valle says of the perception of a lack of response from Washington versus what is really going on. “I have family here. My parents’ home is here. My uncles, aunts, cousins, are all here. As a Puerto Rican, I can tell you that the problem has nothing to do with the U.S. military, FEMA, or the DoD.”

“The aid is getting to Puerto Rico. The problem is distribution. The federal government has sent us a lot of help; moving those supplies, in particular, fuel, is the issue right now,” says Col. Valle. Until power can be restored, generators are critical for hospitals and shelter facilities and more. But, and it’s a big but, they can’t get the fuel to run the generators.

They have the generators, water, food, medicine, and fuel on the ground, yet the supplies are not moving across the island as quickly as they’re needed.

“It’s a lack of drivers for the transport trucks, the 18 wheelers. Supplies we have. Trucks we have. There are ships full of supplies, backed up in the ports, waiting to have a vehicle to unload into. However, only 20% of the truck drivers show up to work. These are private citizens in Puerto Rico, paid by companies that are contracted by the government,” says Col. Valle.

Yesterday, Col. Valle was in a meeting with Puerto Rican Governor Ricardo A. Rosselló and Florida Governor Rick Scott, who travelled to Puerto Rico to see how he could help. Col. Valle says, “Governor Scott offered any and all resources available to help. His support is incredible, as has been the support from all levels of government, FEMA, and all entities. Yes, people are in need of food and water and medical supplies and power; I personally know the people here and they are very grateful for what we are doing. I’m passionate and I’m proud of the response. We did the same response for Hurricane Irma in Florida as for Puerto Rico with Maria.”

“As a Puerto Rican, what happens here for the people is personal to me. To say that we are not provided all of the help and resources needed is just not true. Distribution is the key, and we are working day and night on it. I’m here, my own family is here, I know how hard this is. We need to keep doing what we are doing. It’s going to take the resource of time.”

Puerto Rican CEO: Local government 'corrupt' and 'totally inexperienced' in Maria cleanup

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/10/0...help-fema-efforts-calls-local-pols-inept.html

The head of an international engineering firm in Puerto Rico said in an editorial Saturday
that when the time came to send 50 of his engineers to help in the aftermath of Hurricane
Maria, he bypassed local officials and went straight to FEMA.

The reason, said Jorge Rodriguez, the CEO of PACIV, in an editorial in the New York Post,
is that “for the last 30 years, the Puerto Rican government has been completely inept at
handling regular societal needs, so I just don’t see it functioning in a crisis like this one.”

“Even before the hurricane hit, water and power systems were already broken. And our
$118 billion debt crisis is a result of government corruption and mismanagement.”

...

“For instance, shortly after the hurricane hit, the government imposed a curfew from 6 pm
to 6 am and then changed it,” Rodriguez said. “Now, it’s 7 pm to 5 am, and makes no sense.
The curfew has prevented fuel trucks from transporting their loads.

...

“I was really proud of their quick response,” he added. “The first responders and FEMA
have all been outstanding in this crisis, and should be supported.”

Rodriguez also had a word of caution for the U.S. Congress: “Watch out what relief funds
you approve and let our local government handle. Don’t let the Puerto Rican government
play the victim and fool you. They have no clue what they are doing, and I worry that they
will mishandle anything that comes their way.”

Cawacko nailed it 3 years ago:

I was going to turn to Desh for the answer of this question. She stated a couple of greedy CEO's caused Detroit to file bankruptcy. Now I'm admittedly acknowledging my lack of knowledge on Puerto Rican industry here but maybe she knows which CEO are causing this possible default?

Is Puerto Rico the next Detroit?

Puerto Rico has been called the next Detroit and the next Greece. It's buried in debt and possibly teetering on the edge of bankruptcy...

Where are Runatic, Gomer and Thingy to call her a liar?

2 of them are banned due to their perverse propensity for fallaciousness and falsehood, as is Covfefe the titless wonder. Her inarticulate groaning is at least more coherent than her "thoughts".

Thingy considers himself above reading my posts and cowers away from me.

The imprimatur of Fox News has probably repelled the other dishonest DEMOCRATS.

one thing about pr. When you had the crisis in texas or florida you had random people showing up on boats or anything else they could muster and save people. You had others opening up their homes for various needs.

Im not going to say there is nothing going on like that in PR but it is a lot lower than what happened in irma and harvey. It looks like most people are waiting for rescue.

Seems so, but who knows?

Self-determination may be happening, but because it would require focusing on something other than the SJW Mayor of San Juan, the DEMOCRAT-infested media doesn't bother to show it.

The Trump-bashing agenda is their only focus, and their hate and rage permeates everything they do.
