Latinos now outnumber non-Hispanic whites in Texas, census data shows

So? Why is this a good thing?

It's a change, Terry. It will affect US politics. Do you think this is a bad thing, Terry? Based on your increasingly White Nationalist posts since 2020, I'm thinking it bothers you...a lot.

In your opinion, why did the Republican Party blow off the results of their own Growth & Opportunity Project after the 2012 election?

Growth & Opportunity Project
In December 2012,
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced the Growth and Opportunity
Project. As the co-chairs of the project, we were charged with making recommendations and
assisting in putting together a plan to grow the Party and improve Republican campaigns.
We were asked to dig deep to provide an honest review of the 2012 election cycle and a
path forward for the Republican Party to ensure success in winning more elections.
As requested by Chairman Priebus, we made recommendations in the following areas:
1. Messaging
2. Demographic Partners
3. Campaign Mechanics
4. Friends and Allies (Third Party Groups)
5. Fundraising
6. Campaign Finance
7. Primary Process

It has to do with the census and migration

Non Hispanic white refers to people who’s immigration led whites to settle in traditionally Hispanic societies

Last time I checked the census categories was Hispanic White. Did they change it to Latino?

Non Hispanic white means you don't speak spanish or portugese.

Why didn't MSN call them Hispanic Whites?

Because Hispanic is a culture, not a race. Consider that if you, me and Guno immigrated to France, we'd all be labeled as "Americans" despite differences in our religion, ideology and skin-tone.

As it is, Hispanic culture is mainly family-oriented, religious (Catholicism) and traditional in their culture. Remember Yuppies? They typify "non-Hispanic Whites" since they focus on money over family. They were the product of decades of commercials on television. Hispanic Whites are focused on marriage, family and church.

Not according to the census bureau that artificially created the categories to divide us.

While I agree on the division by category, what's to prevent you from marking "Native American" or "Black" on a census sheet? "Other"? "Canine"? "White Nationalist fuckwit"?

What's to prevent you from lying on an Exit Poll, Nazi?

Pup, your feeble attempts at projection are cute. Nothing. You're free to lie all you like. I always chose "other" on such reports. What do you put? A check mark on "White" and then write in "Nationalist" next to it?

Here's the problem with our beaner
[I say that with love as a resident of Beantown]
friends in Texas.

If so many of them keep voting Republican, it doesn't matter if they outnumber the crackers.
Some of them seem to think that they're Miami Cubans instead of Mexicans.

Growth & Opportunity Project

I think it's irrelevant, that is unless you are a bigot and a racist and therefore make a big deal about race.

There's no context to this thread but if it's simply about demographics Americans understandably often talk about white and black when it comes to race but the reality is Hispanics outnumber blacks in America and Asians are the fastest growing immigrant group (there are 3X more Asians than blacks in California).

To me, many people are stuck in the past on racial issues and think America is still a largely white and black country. That is not the case. Our two biggest states are a majority Hispanic (or close to it). Anecdotal but the middle and high school we're assigned to are both a majority Asian and over 80% Asian and Hispanic. How many people can come close to matching that?

It's not coincidence liberal publications are talking about Hispanic white supremacists because Hispanics are growing in size and while a majority vote Democratic they are not monolithic. Someone who understands this better than I can chime in but weren't Italians and even others not originally considered white? Would it be surprising if some of those we call Hispanic today will be called white in the future?

It matters to Govenor Abbot and Texas Republicans....and it should. Unfortunately, instead of adapting, they are trying to oppress. IMO, that's both anti-American and anti-Texas.

The Hispanic population
is growing at a rapid rate as
well as increasing its proportion
of the total State population.
Our projections suggest the
Hispanic population will more
than double its size in 2010 to
over 20 million by 2050. The
non-Hispanic black population is also projected to
double in size, growing to over 6 million by 2050. The
non-Hispanic white population is projected to grow at
a steady but slower pace relative to the other race/
ethnicity categories, growing to a total population of
13.5 million by 2050. Our population projections
suggest the Hispanic population will likely surpass the
non-Hispanic White population in size by 2022.
However, the Hispanic population is not projected to
make up a majority of the Texas population
throughout this projection’s 2050 horizon.
