I'd only disagree that marketing to many diverse groups = "wading into politics." Especially for department stores. There might be more of an argument along those lines w/ a beer, but the idea that an all-purpose department store should steer clear of merchandise or marketing for LGBTQ is an overreaction. They're just considering the marketplace - not politics.
