Given the fact that the oil industry can no longer cite supply/demand as a reason for prices, the only reason for high priced energy is profit motive at every level....from pumping, to trading on the futures market.

When you factor in the myriad toxicity issues with coal, it isn't cheap.

It is always hilarious to me that lefties claim to be champions of the poor yet their policies always cost the poor money and jobs as well as their dignity

No. We now brag about being a 'net exporter' of petro products. When gas falls below the mid $3/gallon range, the industry simply shuts down refineries, citing profit margins. All of our fracking, and 'drill baby drilling', hasn't done a thing to lower fuel prices. Nat. gas has come down in price, largely because the gas companies are stealing the gas from those they had contracts with.

Yes...this is typically a regional issue. Those in the coal belt regions will fight tooth and nail to defend the industry.

Yet, they look the other way every time coal sludge causes millions in damages.

They ignore the fact that almost every body of water in neighboring regions is now loaded with mercury.

Coal is cost effective and relative to the "green" energy boondoggle yes inexpensive. Without subsidies and the government MAKING coal more expensive coal would dominate.

And let's not forget the US is the Saudi Arabia of coal so we could tell the A-ragheads to go F themselves

Have you heard of UCG, it is a very promising emerging technology? There are thousnads oif worked out seams that are too narrow or unstable to get at conventionally that could be utilised this way.

The problem with the coal industry, is that they've refused to spend the money to make the industry cleaner. They cite job losses, etc. It's always about profit. Now that they suffer pressure from other industries, and regulation, they will be forced to alter their methods....or die.

I'm all for finding ways to make clean energy. Those who continue to defend coal, refuse to address the mercury contamination in the entire Northeast.

There is no form of energy that wasn't/isn't heavily subsidized by the govt.

Citing the use of tax dollars to find alternative energies as a bad thing, is choosing to ignore the history of all energy in this nation.

Coal is not "subsidized". As for me, I oppose any and all subsidies to ANY business. You of course do not. You are selective. You have been sold a bill of goods, and no amount of reason or logic is going to sway you.
