ATF raided the gunlover compound to serve arrest and search warrants as part of an investigation into illegal posession of firearms and explosives.

ATF agents who participated in the raid have testified in court and at a congressional hearing that the gunlovers fired first.

Gunlover David Koresh boasted on a videotape sent out of the compound during the standoff that he had fathered more than 12 children by several "wives" who were as young as 12 or 13 when they became pregnant.

There is considerable evidence as well that gunlover Koresh harshly disciplined the children in the compound. According to affidavits obtained by the FBI from several former Branch Davidians and from Dr. Bruce Perry, a psychiatrist who examined several Branch Davidian children, gunlover Koresh beat young children with a wooden spoon or withheld food for as much as a day to punish them.

The initial successful repulsion of the ATF led to a 51 day standoff. If was not until they brought in a tank, that they were able to successfully murder so many people for doing nothing more than being wacked out crazy religious zealots.

I do not base my decisions on what is popular, and I hope that my leaders do not either.

I don't know anyone who idolizes Koresh. But I do know plenty who view the government's actions against him as criminal.

All of those men, women, and children were gassed and burned to death because it was suspected that they failed to pay taxes on weapons, of which no verifiable evidence could be found afterwards.

This, in my opinion, is the deciding factor in the Waco disastor. There were US citizens who were attacked and burned because of suspicions. No hard evidence existed prior to the attacks.

It showed a government operation of amazing violence against a group that had not committed any violent act.

Unless there is an amendment to the constitution, if the ATF or any other government entity attempts to seize guns, THEY will be the ones in violation of the laws of the land. The Constitution reigns supreme. Any law that is passed in violation of the Constitution is not valid.

'We the people' have the right and duty to defend against the tyranny of the government should they choose to violate the Constitution.

Side note... try to pass and enforce such a law. Watch which side the military ends up on.

Your comment was that 'no one else lets 'loonies' carry guns'.... my return comment was that other governments feared their citizenry would be harder to keep under their heel if they were allowed to possess guns. China for example would be one such country.

Though as they have re-assimilated Hong Kong, they have loosened up to an extent. Though I do not doubt that they would be more than happy to use another tank on a civilian should the opportunity arise.

As for your question... very simple... Hong Kong pre-1988 was not a part of China, hence it is a trick question. It was under British rule until 1997. AFTER 1997 it went back to China at which point the difference is that Hong Kong is a CITY and China a COUNTRY.
