They kept retreating with the Congress people away from the mob.

Had Ashli entered that last room and the others also attempting to get thru streamed in, not only would all the Congress people then have been surrendered to the mob, so too would the guards in the room weapons.

In shooting Ashli, that cop IMMEDIATELY halted the progress of the rest of the mob who learned, that unlike with every other instance where the cops were refusing to use deadly force they now met a line they would not yield. So to progress was to risk death. AND IT WORKED.

It was not only DESIRED but a NEEDED and thing to do.

Try approaching the POTUS or anyone guarded with a mob, when the guards pull their guns and demand you not approach. Refuse the order and just keep marching on them and see what happens to you.
