I tend to find that the people who claim guys like McCain aren't conservative are the sort of people whose ancestry is heavily Democratic, and who would have been reliable Dem voters from 1828 until about 1980. They believe the party was a bastion of conservatism against the communist party of Lincoln.

This sort of voter needs to be driven out of the Republican Party and back into the party from whence it came. I think the best way for it to happen is for the Trumptards to get their hero elected, and then fall in to anaphylactic shock when he begins implementing his far left ideals.
