Karma bites US Women’s soccer team

I am utterly unsurprised conservatives are rooting against Team USA.

Who are they rooting for? Russian Federation?

Looks like OP has had an episode of schadenfreude. I can see why they think it. They think that we spend money, pay them, pay coaches, pay for trips, pay for lodging, give them praise and spend hours watching them only to have them tell us that our nation sucks so bad they can't even stand to represent it, instead they must show they reject it. Most of the folks getting there are living their life-long dream to represent the U.S.A. as an elite in their sport and they act like it.

I can also say that to me this isn't the hill to die on... It seems too much like trying to silence folks just because they are good enough to be on a team representing the USA. Being elite at sports is not a reason to just "shut up", and being able to tell the government you want change is one of the founding principles of this nation.

You apparently have never played soccer. I’ve played softball and soccer and soccer is far more physically demanding and the ability to control the ball while keeping it from your opponent requires skill.

You can be damned sure that I've never player soccer,
but I've boxed so I know a little bit about endurance.

I'm sure that it [soccer]requires skill and endurance.
It doesn't require much hand-eye coordination, though.

And watching it is more boring than watching paint dry.

I understand that most of the world loves the game. That's obvious.
I'll never understand why.

Soccer-rules football is just one version of the ultimately generic team sport.

Like American football, rugby, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, polo, and who knows how many other games,
soccer is about going back and forth,
attacking and defending goals,
all under a running clock.

If you've seen one of these games, you've seen them all.

Baseball and softball, the latter variations being baseball tweaked for the people playing it,
are cerebral games.

I can sit through four and a half hours of Yankees-Red Sox baseball
and ride on every pitch.

I'm not a member of the video game generation; I have an attention span.
But both games exist, so to each his/her own.

"Yeah, we didn't score any goals against Sweden last night, but that was totally on purpose," said star player and beloved activist Megan Rapinoe. "This isn't the time to score goals—when America is still racist. We totally could have beaten Sweden but we decided as a team that no goals will be scored until complete equality has been achieved in America. Also, we demand a hefty raise."

America is dying....it would not be a shock if America does poorly this Olympics.

But IDK....I gave up on the Olympics about a dozen years ago.

My heart was broken.

This isn’t the kind of history the United States wanted to set.

For the first time in 49 years, according to Olympic historian Bill Mallon, the U.S. failed to medal on the first day of the Summer Olympics.

Eleven gold medals were given out Saturday, but an American did not place in the top three in any of those events, falling short in fencing, archery, cycling, air rifle and pistol shooting, and weightlifting.

Interesting.

Has the women’s soccer team lost sponsors? Their sponsors must not care if they protest, so they must be woke corporations.

The Olympics lost their claims to be non political a long time ago, 1948 was the first year. You fool yourself if you think they aren’t.
True. Our athletes got screwed when Carter wouldn't allow them to participate in '80. Ironically, because USSR invaded Afghanistan.
