Just remember the Repubs did this

I guess that is why pappy was crying...

This will get blamed on the tree huggers and other brands of liberals I am sure.

If Republicans favor offshore drilling, and Liberals don't... why do you suppose Republicans pulled the legislation? Do ya think, it just might possibly be, because with a majority Democrat congress, the legislation would simply be defeated? Once legislation is defeated, it is dead for some period of time, because other legislation is in front of any renewed legislation.

Although it does my heart good to teach pinheads about government, this is not something we should be having to go through at this point in your life. Republicans pulled the legislation, to either tweak it to pass a liberal congress, or they plan to re-introduce it under a more conservative congress, at a later date, OR.... they plan to make it a part of some other popular liberal legislation, like a minimum wage increase, or something. There is an incredible amount of strategy involved in politics, and to just ignorantly presume Republicans killed offshore drilling behind conservatives backs, is beyond pathetic.

Uhhh....wrong again, Einstein.

This legislation never gets passed because the people of Florida oppose drilling off their shore in the eastern gulf

Jeb Bush opposes it. Republicans have tried for years to pass this legislation, but it always gets killed because Republicans - like Jeb Bush - don't want to piss off the people of an electorally important state.

The people of Florida only have a couple of votes in the Senate, and I think they are both Democrat. The legislation doesn't get passed because the environmentalist lobby owns the liberal Democrat party.

Jeb Bush opposes it.

Yay for Jeb, he has little to do with Congress, and Bush is not a name that will ever become synonymous with 'The Republicans'.

Republicans have tried for years to pass this legislation, but it always gets killed because Republicans - like Jeb Bush - don't want to piss off the people of an electorally important state.

That's a nice theory you have, but it's just not rooted in reality. Florida is mostly Democrat, and has been for quite some time. The only way Jeb got elected, is by acting and sounding like a Democrat. Last I checked, Democrats pretty much hated Republicans, and weren't going to support offshore drilling legislation, so how was the US House legislation expected to be perceived by the Floridians? You are essentially saying, Republicans attempted to legislate something the Democrats in Florida vehemently oppose, and then withdrew it to keep them from being pissed off. As if! LOL

"The House will revisit the offshore drilling legislation again at some point before the end of this week, though details on the mechanics of how the measure will be considered have yet to be decided," Kevin Madden, spokesman for House Majority Leader John Boehner, said in a statement.

Ahh... precisely as I stated! They are going to tweak it, or incorporate it into some other legislation, for a later vote.

Lesson in American Presidential Politics - 101: for Dixie

a. with 27 electoral votes, Flordia is arguably the most important state in presidential elections.

b. ergo; Don't do anything to piss off the people of florida.

Case study: GOP congress tried for years to open up easter gulf to drilling - a move wildly unpopular with Florida constituents. Florida's republican governor opposes drilling in eastern gulf. GOP congress never does pass drilling legislation for eastern gulf, though the legislation has been pending for years

a. with 27 electoral votes, Flordia is arguably the most important state in presidential elections.

No, it's not arguable at all, California is a more important state, next is New York. Florida is indeed an important state, hardly the most important.

b. ergo; Don't do anything to piss off the people of florida.

In Presidential elections, Florida is fairly evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, you will recall we had to count chads in 2000? I would say it would be difficult to piss off the entire state of Florida, even Bush wouldn't be able to accomplish that. Believe it or not, there are people in Florida who favor offshore drilling!

Also the liberals are NOT in majority yet Dix, it is still the same old congress. Well minus a few crooks ;)
Thanks Dixie for proving me correct. See Just reverse what dixie says and it comes out right. Dixie, the mirrorspeak man.

Lesson #2 in American Presidential Politics - for Dixie:

California is not a competitive state for presidential elections. New York isn't competitive either.

Florida is. Ergo, Florida is definetly arguably the most important state, electorally, in presidential politics.

Poll after poll, show overwhelming majorities of Floridians oppose offshore drilling. Which is why Jeb Bush opposes it

They are about to be, idiot! That's why they killed the legislation! How did I fucking 'prove you correct' moron? Congress is in a short session, which will end before very much more, if any legislation is voted on, and any pending bills will be picked up by the new congress in a few weeks, when they reconvene. Jeesh, I will be glad when it happens, so you pinheads will quit whining about not being the majority yet!

WRONG ONCE AGAIN, EINSTEIN! Melvin Martinez is a Bush Republican!

Funny how we have a Republican Governor, House and Senate!

article says 1,300M barrels of oil at 21M barrels per day use in the US; comes out to 62 days worth of oil. big deal. But if you find 100 more sites like that, it does beome a big deal. i guess every little bit helps right now.

the article also said the bill wouldn't pass the senate since curent lame duck rules require 2/3 to pass it. they are going to work it more before trying again.

Well then, it's REALLY funny how Republicans pulled legislation to avoid pissing off Republicans in Florida, isn't it? I mean, you can't really have your cake and eat it too, here. Republicans favor offshore drilling, Democrats oppose it, just take a look at every single vote that has been taken on the measure, and you will clearly see, this is not something Republicans get pissed off about.

You'll notice, I did use the words "I think" in my sentence. This is often done to denote uncertainty, and means that I am unsure of what is being said. I think this makes me right, not wrong. Had I stated that both Florida Senators were Democrats, then you would have proven me to be wrong, but that wasn't what was stated, as you can clearly see. By the way, one is Republican and one is Democrat, so to say Funny how we have a Republican Governor, House and Senate!, is incorrect. The Governor is Republican, but only half of the Senators are, and I have no idea on the house, but I bet they ain't ALL Republican either.

Nevertheless, you make a brilliant point, and I bet you didn't even realize it! The argument presented by uscitizen was; This legislation never gets passed because the people of Florida oppose drilling off their shore in the eastern gulf. Now, if Florida has a predominately Republican congress, and Republicans largely favor offshore drilling, how is this possible? The Republican representatives of the people of Florida are not voting against their constituencies, are they?

I never claimed they did Einstein!

I was clearly talking about Florida's House and Senate which are majority Republican, you idiot!

No, uscitizen did, and that was who I was arguing with when you barged in here with your petty little snipes and smart ass attitude. I guess you have some sort of inferiority complex or something, that's about all I can think of to explain your behavior. This is a message board, you don't intimidate me by acting like a school yard bully, in fact, if we were on the school yard, I'd just beat the living dog crap out of you and take your lunch money, and this would all be settled.

Look, I understand that retarded people have a need to feel important, and for some reason, you think that pointing out my 'mistakes' makes you smart like the normal folks, but really man, they don't see you as being brilliant for 'correcting' me! If you want to really impress your other pinhead friends here, you should read a book by Chomsky and pontificate on how there is no God. That would make them think of you as a brilliant pinhead.
