Just heard on news some exit poll figures

I'm pretty sure Brown's going to win, but that source is still suspicious to me. I don't know where he's getting his number from.

What's suspicious about getting hyper-local "exit poll" information about an election in Massachusetts from a right-wing website based in Charlotte, North Carolina?

That in itself is hardly surprising. It's no secret that Coakley has to get a huge turnout in Boston & Amherst.

The national media is already reporting as though she lost though, which might say something...

yep... it says 'holy shit, she may really lose, if we pretend she already lost, maybe we can discourage some people who were going to vote for Brown from voting.'

I hate it when they come out early like that.... Florida 2000 anyone?

"Hey Coakley voters. Don't bother. She already lost. And it's raining/snowing/shitty out. Just stay home."

My point exactly. I hate this tactic....or.......way of reporting or whatever you want to call it.

Hey - whatever it takes.

We're all in this together (the media & us liberals, I mean)...

True, but that said, the quote Dung put up could also occur due to their 'reporting'. Which again goes back to your point... they should shut the hell up until the polls close.

I still think she will win this. In large part because I can't get my head around a Republican Senator from MA....

We shall just have to wait and see...

If I would ignore my usual routine for predicting elections and just focus on Rasmussen, it's possible Coakley could win. Rasmussen has an ultra tight voter screen, and the fact that so many polls are coming out to the right of it sets off a red flag for me.

But, I am suppressing that logic because I think it's just me squirming to still believe that my sides not going to get a crushing blow. I haven't heard anything fishy about the methodologies of the polls that are predicting a Brown blowout.

Yep, I can see that side of it too...I just can't stand it so I don't even watch TV until after 7:00 on election day. Well, elections that I see as important anyway.

IMHO this is one point where we should consider passing a constitutional amendment. Publishing exit polls fudges with our elections.

I dont know about going to that extent... seems overkill.

But when discussing exit polling, I have no problem if they report it as 'exit poll is currently x percentage for candidate a and y percentage for candidate b, z number of hours left before the polls close... get out and vote'

but the PROJECTIONS.... that shit needs to wait until the polls close. PERIOD.

Look at 1984... Reagan had 'won' before states like Hawaii and AK (and maybe even the PAC time zone polls) had closed. Basically saying... 'hey... your votes don't really matter. We already decided.'

Well it may seem like overkill but it would be the only way to stop it. News organizations are going to publish whatever there is demand for. Maybe we can roll it into some bigger constitutional amendment one day.

They traditionally hold the exit poll data for a particular state until the polls close in state.

I don't see how you get a hold on exit poll data for east coast states in presidential elections until Hawaii polls close. Once Hawaii polls close you typically have enough actual election results to know which way the race is going is east coast states such that exit polling is useless.

There's going to be some serious egg on people's faces if she pulls this race out.

What a stupid remark! A democrat winning the seat of Ted Kennedy in MA, is not going to leave egg on ANY right wing faces! This race was supposed to be a given for Dems to win! A month ago, the very idea that Democrats MIGHT lose this race, was ABSURD! The fact there is even any challenge in Massachusetts, is a great big pluming feather in the cap of the right, win lose or draw, there is NO egg!

Yeah I'm aware of all that Dixie. I'm saying people claiming victory for Brown this morning based on polling will have egg if it is not true. Even with the polling numbers I will be shocked if Brown wins. But regardless, it's like an athlete that guarantees a victory before the game and then his team losses.

Even a big loss is a big pluming feather in the cap of the right, isn't it Dix?

Didn't you say that Republicans "work better in the minority", anyway?

Why would you ever want them to win?
