Judge releases Strauss-Kahn

New York (CNN) -- A New York judge released former International Monetary Fund Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn on his own recognizance Friday, following serious credibility issues with the woman who accused him of sexual assault.

The case has changed dramatically but prosecutors said "we are not dismissing the case."

Strauss-Kahn's release significantly eases the extraordinary bail conditions that had been previously ordered. He had been released from jail on $6 million bail but was under house arrest in a luxury townhouse in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood.

Prosecutors have raised credibility issues so grievous that incontrovertible DNA evidence of sexual contact recovered from Strauss-Kahn's hotel suite may not be enough to overcome them, a source familiar with the case told CNN. They were expected to notify the court Friday of the credibility issues which could collapse the felony case.

interesting...so many were quick to rush to judgment

A key issue will be her conversation with an individual incarcerated on narcotics charges. “She was apparently seeking advice from someone she trusted, an inmate, and talked about how lucrative this sort of thing could be,” says Cohen. “It is one thing to consult a lawyer – that is acceptable in society,” he says. “It is another thing to talk to someone in jail.”

According to a letter sent by the assistant district attorney to Strauss-Kahn’s attorneys, the accuser has lied about a gang-rape that she said took place in Guinea, lied about what she did immediately after the alleged attack, and has been cheating on her income taxes for the past two years.

Prosecutors said the woman admitted lying in her application for asylum in the United States and that she had been a victim of a gang rape, providing details of that attack. She cried when she first told prosecutors about the rape but in a subsequent interview, she admitted the gang rape never occurred.
She said the fabricated account on the asylum application was made with the assistance of a man who "provided her with a cassette recording of the facts" so that she could memorize them.

Note: if you want to accuse a rich person who've you had sex with of rape so that you can later file a civil suite against them and get lots of money, don't do this.

Oh boy. Where are you hangers and floggers now? I hope this guy sues the arses of America. First the NYPD for the 'perp' walk, then every last crap news medium that condemned him without listening to the trial.
We have this funny old fashioned idea, that America clearly chooses not to understand. It is 'Innocent until proven guilty.'
You are no better than China. No better at all!
