JPP Debate Championship 2014

It's time to start thinking about the 2014 debate championship, so this thread is to start gauging interest and organizing. Ideally, because of the time required to get this set up, it would take place between mid-August and early September. We need 3 judges and preferably 16 contestants, though we can make do with less and obviously more is always better. The current champion, for those unaware, is Darla. Therefore she is ineligable to be a judge (though she has no obligation to defend her title).

Requirements for judges:
Must be a member in good standing for at least 1 year from today. So if you joined after 5/1/13, sorry. Or if you've been banned since 5/1/13, you're also inelgiable. Also, prior judges are ineligable

Requirements for warriors:
Must be a member with at least 50 posts and 2 weeks of time on this board. Bans are irrelevant (unless you get banned during the tournament). No alts either, obviously.

So, let's get people signed up and discussing shit.

Making a commitment to compete will be a last minute decision for me due to the work situation. Currently we're short handed and have been working overtime with a pretty brutal work load. I'm tentatively on board but may have to withdraw. I should be able to make a final decision when the time to compete gets closer.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. September kicks off the busiest three months of the year for me, and I have to begin preparing for that in August, so I really can't say until it's much closer. I was relieved to read that I am not obligated to participate, I thought Grind had told 3D he had to because he was defending champ last time. I'm just not sure I will be able to.

I am not interested. Don't like the format.

Now throw up another game of Werewolf and I am in. I want to see USFreedom give Run a stroke or heart attack. That would be epic.

We always need alternates. If you'd like to sign up for one of those until you have a more firm idea of your schedule by all means have at it.

Also, I'd like to try my hand at being a judge this year.

Just so you know. It takes more time and preparation to judge the debates than to participate. Not only do you have to read and evaluate each post but you have to do your homework on the topic being debated so that your informed on the issue(s) being discussed. Also at least one of the judges needs to Mod the debates and that takes a lot of time and effort too.

As for being an alternate....I don't think that's necessary. I think that this being so far out from the start of the competition that you should create a tentative list of competitors and have those contestants confirm that commitment like a month before the competition begins. On that basis I can throw my hat in the ring knowing that if my schedule doesn't permit it, at that time, I can withdraw if need be.

I was going to volunteer to judge, but that sounds terrible.

It's especially brutal for Mott, because then you also have to fret over whether or not you agree with the arguments being made, which goes above, beyond, and outside of what you expect from a judge.

i think darla and 3d or various runner ups should be judge. have former champions judge. that'd be cool.
