John Bolton: Putin was waiting for Trump to withdraw US from NATO....

Nomad

Every trumper is a N4T.
If it is not obvious to you now, why Putin wanted Trump in the WH so badly, and that he tried his best not only to get him elected in 2016, but to get him reelected in 2020, then you have just got your head too far up someone's ass.... either Trump's or your own.

I saw that, been saying from the start Putin didn't invade Ukraine while his golden (orange) goose was sitting in the WH, which would be like the Patties firing Bill Belichick

"America First!" always meant not having entangling alliances requiring us to defend those vaguely Marxist liberal social democracies of Europe.

Putin and Trump were BOTH waiting for Trump's second term so he would be unfettered from any constraints of getting reelected.

I'm not even sure Trump wouldn't have gotten his Republican allies in Congress and the military brass, to help him carry out a coup in which he installed himself as a permanent ruler.

We may never really know how close we might have come to losing our democracy and our country.

Oh, well, if Bolton "believes" that, IT MUST BE TRUE.

a solid right winger for the last 50 years telling the truth about trump being a putin bitch after working with him for a few years is a great source, stupid. just how fucking stupid are you, little putin bitch?

Bolton was as deep inside as it gets in the Trump (or any) administration and one thing he is known for is NOT LYING.

I don't believe for one moment that the brass would have done that. Those he came into contact with appear to have had little but contempt for him. Also they take the oath of allegiance seriously - and it isn't to the POTUS, let alone Trump.

He had some support from the hawks within the military.

Look at Flynn.

I'm sure there were others.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday with Daniel Bessner who is an historian, tenured professor at the Univ of Washington and a Bernie Sanders supporting/socialist/man of the left. He argues that America on the whole has not been a force for good in the world with our imperialism etc. He's the opposite of me politically but even though I strongly disagree with his worldview he's clearly a sharp guy and articulates his beliefs/positions well.

He argued NATO is a relic of the Cold War and should be disbanded. My understanding of his position is it's just an excuse for America to once again stick its nose in European affairs and try to dictate our views on the rest of the world (he also argued European countries are wealthy and shouldn't have to rely on America to fund their defense).

For those that read people on the left (not mainstream Democrats) is that an outlier position or do others hold it as well?

NATO was designed as a wall against Russian imperialism. The last few years should have shown you how valuable it is. Russia has never stopped pushing its borders out into other countries.

This is actually a very popular view on the Sanders left. I strongly disagree, but that's one of the reasons I am not a leftist. I don't know if Bernie himself believes this honestly, so maybe I shouldn't call them the Sanders left, but it's a left position for sure. Horseshoe theory in action.

Is that so?

Meanwhile, Trump is busy tweet ranting about spies in his campaign in an ongoing attempt to discredit and deflect attention away from the investigation into it. Why would they expect Pence to be anything but a 'political dummy' given that he's the number two man in the biggest crowd of dummies ever to occupy the WH???

This guy was a foreign policy advisor to the Sanders campaign.

Bolton is a PNAC warmonger. However, Trump does not care about war. He did not care if Putin took over Ukraine if it got him Trump Moscow. He worked hard to shred NATO as Putin wanted. Putin thought he could put Trump back in office and they could have destroyed NATO. Trump did not care about NATO, so he did what Putin wanted. The plan failed, so Putin did what he was going to do all along.

this topic has been beaten to death. duplicate threads :bdh:

Only Congress can withdrawal from NATO

The last thing this country needs is a president who is hostile to NATO by disposition.

Wherever the powers congess has on paper, the chief executive is the one that cultivates, implements, and manages the nature of our alliances.
