Joe Paterno at center of an unholy mess

You watching? Word on the twitter is that it's pretty much the most unprofessional press conference ever.

Actually I'm watching this History Channel special on Vietnam which is pretty intense. I switched channels at a commercial and watched the press conference for a couple of minutes. What I saw was two or three reporters asking questions at the same time and not stopping for each other to speak.

I'm watching that, as well. One of the best war docs I've seen - certainly the best on Vietnam...

Don't worry, Paterno fans, Penn State will just conduct an investigation and he'll be exonerated. Worked for Mann

Thanks Sweetie....I had not heard about this janitor and what he saw......or when....

I assume by the grad assistant you mean now Asst. Coach McQueary that witnessed the abuse in 2002...

How McQueary could see abuse taking place and not intervene is beyond understanding.....
When all he had to do is shout out, "Hey, what the fuck is going on in there" and that that child the hell out of harms way.....

He is the real villain in this entire debacle....not Paterno

Paterno could not go to police on the testimony of someone else....he could not know if that person (McQueary) was telling the truth or just not seeing straight...
It was McQueary's duty to report what he himself, witnessed

It was both of their duty. All of it, "Joe Pa" should quit now, this McQueary dude should be fired.

To continue to work with somebody that you knew was a child predator is beyond anything that decent society should ever allow.

Paterno officially fired.

Thank the Little Gods...

My Brother in law works at Penn State... Jeebus what a poop storm...

I just can't stand the fact that people could stand next to and work with somebody they knew was doing this to kids he was promising to "help"...

He's very sick. But it seems to me that he had institutional protection. That is even more horrifying. Heartbreaking that he picked on disadvantaged kids with promises of going to see games. I mean seriously, you could cry just from reading that part. But he had some power there protecting and shielding him. That is beyond sick to me, it's horrifying. Like SF said, it really reminded me of the Catholic Church. Who's sicker? The pedophile rapist or the people who give him cover? What's more evil? You could debate that for a long time, but every monster who had a hand in this needs to pay.

One certainly expects more of the society around the perpetrator, since the group is supposed to be devoid of the emotional and mental problems which afflict the perpetrator. People in a supervisory or leadership position are obliged to report any crimes which occur around them.

Oh boy, here are a couple of tweets by Sports by Brooks and Mark Madden.

SbB via Twitter: If what I was told tonight about the details of the new allegation in Sandusky child sex case is true, it will horrify the public.

MarkMaddenX via Twitter:Don't believe this can get worse? Give it 72 hrs. People really digging into Second Mile. Even more shocking revelation is ahead. Yikes.

Now if this comes to light this is really scary. I hope this isn't true but it seems like anything could be possible at this point.

SHOCKING PENN STATE RUMOR: Jerry Sandusky 'Pimped Out Young Boys To Rich Donors'

Sportswriter Mark Madden went on WEEI in Boston and reported a rumor that alleged child molester Jerry Sandusky would pimp out boys to rich donors.

"I hear a rumor that there will be a shocking development from the Second Miles Foundation ... That Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors."

Madden claims it's being investigated by "two prominent columnists."

We'd say this is ridiculous, and that you should take it with a grain of salt. But Madden actually wrote about Sandusky for the Beaver County Times six months ago — long before the scandal blindsided everyone else this week.

Madden also claimed Sandusky was forced out of Penn State in 1999.

"I think you'll find out that Jerry Sandusky was told he had to retire in exchange for a cover up."

Sandusky retired at 55 in 1999, a year after Pennsylvania police investigated (but did not prosecute) him for alleged molesting a boy.

Again, label this under "RUMOR." But Madden has been out in front of this story before, so stay tuned.

I hope its not true, but if it is........holy shit!

Maybe this has been discussed and I just missed it but has it been stated why at age 55 he just retired when there was talk he would air apparent to Paterno which would make you think if he had that much talent as a coach some other school(s) might want him as well?

I haven't seen any discussion of why he retired. To me, it's obvious given the 1998 investigation (and it's equally obvious that Paterno knew about it). I imagine he would have had to disclose the investigation if he were retained by another school and that's why he remained retired.

Yeah, how would Paterno not know why he retired?

I am surprised you are not claiming the Penn State mess is part of the Gay Agenda.

Gay men have been screwing boys for centuries. Nothing new. They even have their own organization...NAMBLA. They're all males who like to screw boys. Where would you classify them?

And given that Paterno is probably the most powerful man in Happy Valley, what's the likelihood that he didn't catch wind of the investigation? It's just not credible.

Exactly. So it wasn't like 2002 was the first time he heard of Sandusky being with little boys.

I theory or reason I heard thrown around is that since Sandusky was such an integral part of the success of his teams during the '80's and '90's Paterno didn't want that success to be tainted so that is why he helped cover up Sandusky's actions.
