Jim Henson Company breaks ties with Chick-fil-A over gay marriage stance

Yeah, when that money comes out of the workers pay checks, that'll sure show them!

If they were my employees I fire them all on the spot and hire gays. Just to make a statement.

Talk about uneducated and intolerant. First of all, why would I be "scared" of queers? They don't carry guns do they?

You don't think we have guns? Hah!

No, Alias is right here. Posing as 'Facts' but is obviously the same tub of turds Alias always was. You fooled the mods. Woo-hoo!

There is no rational reason to deny gays the right to marry except homophobia. And that's putting it mildly. For you I imagine it goes beyond that, though.

Whether or not this brain-addled person is Alias or not, he plagiarized a copyrighted article on here. Isn't that a bannable offense?

genetic makeup to be queer? That means you agree with me that it is an aberrant condition like cancer correct? I mean if you believe in evolution 100%, then you must agree that those things that cannot make the species stronger are not fit to survive.s According to the evolutionists, it is all about procreation and since queers can't procreate........

as for my children, they are well adjusted and doing just fine. no genetic makeup to being queer, but since being queer is a choice it won't be a problem. Now this is where you ask the question "When did you choose to be straight". Didn't have to choose. It is just normal to be straight. QUeer choose to be ABNORMAL.

I bet James Holmes watched lots of PBS

You really are a brain-dead buffoon. Go crawl back in your fucking cave.

Remember our Dixie Chicks discussion years ago? Since then I am not so much a boycotter. But I don't think badly of those who do either, since I used to be apt to join them.

I do indeed; I have had the Dixie Chicks discussion a few times on the board.

Naturally, if someone makes a personal choice to stop buying or supporting a group like the Chicks, I have no issues w/ it. It's the organized boycotts that I found strange & against the grain of what we're about as a country...

No, it's call immaturity. Generally, people are activists in their younger years; they become more pragmatic with age.

Is that the rule? Then I flunk. Old school notion. Once an activist, always an activist! I have stood by many an octogenarian in my war protests!

So I guess that means poor you because I am still here despite your efforts to run and whine to the mods. I am not Alias, but I don't mind fucking with your head about it because........well,it is fun.

Please do not let reality get in the way of your delusions.

Poor me? 'In my head'? In your wet dreams only, I'm afraid. But that's probably all you've got to keep you warm. I don't care if you're here, Alias. Stink up the place. Eventually the mods will tire of it.

2 different animals. That was a boycott against a policy.

What I was agreeing with is the concept of boycotting someone for merely holding an opinion, which I have always seen as somewhat unAmerican in spirit.

That's not correct my wise friend.

We boycotted businesses AGAINST their policies no differently than the boycott of 1955 boycotted the Montgomery Bus Service against their policies.

Rights in this country are ONLY granted by what you can demand.

Gays are coming into their rights now because they are now in a position to demand them .. no differently than it was for women, workers, or people of color.

It's not that simple, Bijou. I am for gay marriage, but there are reasons to oppose it other than "bigotry." But then, I suppose everything boils down to bigotry with you people. It's a hell of a lot simpler than actually debating, that is for sure.

I would be interested in hearing the "other" reasons, please.

How embarrassing for you that you posted out of complete ignorance. Chick-Fila is a privately owned company. Therefore it does not have a ticker symbol and is not a publicly traded company. This is where your cognitive dissonance kicks in
I can tell you're not a business man. It's still a stupid business decison.

Chick-Fil-A is not setting the policy on gay marriage.

We shouldn't be afraid of opinions. If we don't like their opinion, we should counter it with one of our own. ADD to the marketplace of ideas, instead of just seeking to silence an idea we don't like.

And no, a boycott isn't offering an opinion. Win your agenda by offering better logic and more sound reasoning.

How unfortunate for your children that they are not allowed to watch PBS, they miss a lot of first rate children's programs, Sid the Science Kid, Word World, Super Why and Dinosaur Train. Programs on other channels are inferior to some of those presented on PBS. Their loss.
Rana! I'm surprized at you. How can you bring your child up to be a mindless rightwing robot if you teach them how to think?

This is an area on which we have to agree we will always disagree. My boycott is a physical means of protest.

Nothing unfortunate at all. Unlike some, we don't rely on the television to educate our children. They are educated with real science, not bullshit about global warming. Our children don't watch much television at all. And what they do watch is carefully controlled by us.
LOL Real Science? Let me guess, you're probably another one of these idiots who think ID is science?

I don't understand the concept of boycotts. I do not agree with Steven Spielberg on a wide variety of issues, but I enjoy his movies. My disagreement with Spielberg has no impact on the likelihood that I will pay to watch his films. Why is it that people on both sides of the aisle feel compelled to stop purchasing a product that they enjoy because they have a political or religious disagreement with the maker of the product?
Cause it's fun! :)

We can disagree respectfully. I'm a big fan of opinions, even ones I disagree with vehemently. Boycotts just seem like a hamfisted way of countering them.

I remember listening to Hannity once, and he and a caller were both commiserating, because they both had "Shawshank Redemption" as one of their favorite movies, but had vowed not to watch any more Tim Robbins' flicks, and were sad that they'd never get to see it again.

At the very least, that gets a, "Really?"

LOL Would you care to rephrase that Grind? LOL

Guilty! I try to expose them to thoughts other than my own. I have always told them, this is how I feel, but there are other thoughts on the subject. I am just awful that way!

Yes, it's called 'direct action' and when enough raised awareness practice such direct action, it has a direct impact. That's why boycotts are effective.

The businesses we boycotted didn't "set the policy" either .. but you know what happened? WE WON.

The doors were kicked open by demand and by squeezing the life-blood out of those who kept the doors locked.

Chick Fila a can do whatever they want .. as can those who are asked to buy their products.

You can offer them whatever you want .. I'll stick to what has worked.

In fact, boycotts work so well that they had to come up with all kinds of new laws to run from them.
