On this day in 1940 the Zionist underground Haganah in coordination with the Irgun smuggled a huge bomb aboard an ocean liner in Haifa port, Palestine. The SS Patria was embarking the last of 1,800 Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany destined for Mauritius where facilities existed to provide a safe haven for the refugees. The bomb was detonated at 9am the following morning, killing 267 and injuring a further 172. The attack was aimed at preventing the departure of any Jews from Palestine.

“I cannot bear Netanyahu, he’s a liar,” Sarkozy told Obama, unaware that the microphones in their meeting room had been switched on, enabling reporters in a separate location to listen in to a simultaneous translation.

“You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him even more often than you,” Obama replied, according to the French interpreter.

The Israeli occupation forces launched a number of armed incursions on Thursday across the occupied West Bank and al-Quds, arresting a number of young Palestinian men, amid ongoing illegal settler attacks on Palestinians and their property in Nablus and al-Khalil.

Israeli soldiers arrested thirteen Palestinians who were taken away for interrogation, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club. They face charges of participating in acts of popular resistance against the violence of the settlers and the occupation forces.

Israeli officer executes Palestinian at point-blank range[

An Israeli Border Police officer shot and killed a Palestinian man at point-blank range in the town of Huwwara, near the West Bank city of Nablus, on Friday.

The harrowing incident, captured on video recorded from multiple angles, comes days after Kobi Shabtai, Israel’s police chief, praised officers for killing a Palestinian who they allege carried out a car ramming attack at a checkpoint.

“A dead terrorist is what I want to see,” Shabtai said after Rani Mamoun Fayez Abu Ali, 45, was killed on Tuesday.

Shabtai’s comments are not the first from a senior officer encouraging field executions of Palestinians.

Palestinian youth have disproportionately contributed to our decades-old liberation struggle. Their role reached an unprecedented height during the intifada that broke out in 1987 against military occupation and settler-colonial oppression. Soon after, and as part of its relentless attack on Palestinian education Israel gradually shut down all Palestinian universities and schools in the occupied Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Colonizing Palestinian minds with hopelessness was Israel’s main objective.

Palestinian educators and students, however, insisted on the right to education by devising alternative “underground” learning spaces – in homes, in mosques and churches, in community centers’ basements – in an inspiring wave of mass defiance of the occupation’s brutal repression. Aside from the basic curriculum, students learned from teachers, parents and each other the rich heritage of Palestinian popular resistance, including sumud (steadfastness), organizing protests and strikes, and boycotting the oppressor’s products, when feasible.

It is that long heritage of rooted popular resistance, along with international anti-colonial and anti-racist struggles, that eventually inspired the BDS movement in 2005. Connecting our liberation struggle not just with other justice struggles but also with the absolute need to end international complicity in Israel’s regime of settler-colonialism and apartheid, the BDS movement was the clearest manifestation of a global, Palestinian-led intifada of sorts.

Jewish Settlers Attack Palestinian School near Nablus

Jewish settlers attacked a Palestinian high school near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus on Wednesday, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlements activities in the northern West Bank, told WAFA that illegal settlers from the Jewish settlement of Yitzhar stoned the Madama High School for Girls, under protection from the Israeli forces, sparking confrontations with Palestinians.

Israeli soldiers fired tear gas canisters towards protestors and their houses.

The school staff had to evacuate the students for their safety.

Extremist Israeli settlers’ violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.
