Let’s be clear. The current healthcare system in the United States is totally broken, dysfunctional and cruel. It is a system which spends twice as much per capita as any other major country, while 85 million Americans are uninsured or underinsured, one out of four Americans cannot afford the cost of the prescription drugs their doctors prescribe, and where over 60,000 die each year because they don’t get to a doctor on time.

It is a system in which our life expectancy is lower than almost all other major countries and is actually declining, a system in which working-class and low-income Americans die at least ten years younger than wealthier Americans.

It is a system in which some 500,000 people go bankrupt because of medically related debt.

Remember when we were told of "death panels" and how horrible a national plan would be because we'd have to wait for MONTHS to get appointments and treatment? Guess what? It's already like that in many places. And we already have death panels. They're called health care plan administrators and THEY decide if your proposed diagnostics or surgery or meds or therapy will be covered. My youngest has MS. Her neurologist has to write to her insurance company in order for them to cover her very, very expensive medicines -- the medicines that keep her functional and able to work and earn a living. It takes her weeks to schedule her annual MRIs that follow the regression or progression of her disease.

The current system is crap. Medicare for all is a much better idea.

Eating is by far a more pressing issue for more people on a daily basis than healthcare, so why arent you calling for a guarantee that everyone has food?

Were you in grade school when it was passed? Obamacare was never about universal healthcare. It was about providing healthcare to the people who had none. They were too poor or fell through the cracks. It opened clinics in poor neighborhoods. It forced hospitals to treat people who came into the emergency. It removed lifetime cost limits. It stopped insurance companies from refusing to insure some people. It allowed children to stay on their parent's policies until age 25.
It saved a lot of people. People who never had regular medical care could get it.

On top of that Obamacare has left 10's of millions of the poorest and most needy in this country without health insurance. Those that it was supposed to help.
