IT'S A MERCY THAT RONALD REAGAN CANNOT SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO AMERICA TODAY

You're statement is false. For starters STY is a Libertarian and Hawkeye claims himself to be a progressive.

I can't really speak to how young people feel about Reagan because they weren't alive when he was President but Reagan is revered in (older) Republican circles.

Older Republicans let their party be stolen by Trump and his fascist followers607746832030277ec967697e.jpg

If you don't know - (because you are a "spotty Herbert" like ARCHIVES or TAICHILIBERAL and your public schools in America was one the the majority who don't teach REAL, OBJECTIVE American history any more) - Ronald Reagan was a famous, Republican President of the US. Reagan was the 40th POTUS and served from 1981 to 1989. Before becoming US President, Ronald Reagan was the governor of California from 1967 to 1975. Before his career in politics, Reagan was a Hollywood actor and an actors' union leader.

Ronald Reagan became a staunch anti-communist in the 1950's, and he is very fondly remembered by Americans for his role fierce, Cold War warrior, who took the fight to the USSR in a diverse range of locations around the world, including: Afghanistan; Grenada, Libya; Nicaragua and Pakistan. In short ,President Reagan played a huge role in the ultimate defeat of the Soviet Union or, as he famously called it the the "Evil Empire." For all practical intents and purposes the Soviet Union collapsed (literally) when the Berlin Wall fell on the evening of 9th November, 1989. Every sane human on planet Earth wept rears of joy that night; watching the East and West Berliners smash the concrete wall from opposite sides with their mallets, hammers, drills, picks and any other tool that could be used to attack the hated "Berlin Wall" people felt a sense of great jubilation, that seemed mixed with a poignant awareness of the "blood between the stones" they were hacking down.

In 1987, two years before the fall of the "Berlin Wall" (and effectively the Soviet Union) Reagan delivered a speech in West Berlin in which he called on the General Secretary of the Soviet Union, Michael Gorbachev, to open the "Berlin Wall" which had separated free West Berlin from communist East Berlin since 1961, saying: " MR GORBACHEV, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL !". When the wall DID fall down two years later, Reagan's call to Gorbachev immortalized him . as the heroic patriot who had won the long, tense Cold War with the Soviets for America and the rest of the free world (And that was pretty much true - Reagan was the firey spearhead of the West's battle with the Soviet communists' "Evil Empire."

The other reason that most American's still admire their President Reagan is, IMO, the simple fact that he was a Hollywood movie star, and Americans LOVE their movie stars. Right ?

( I love this movie because Errol Flynn is teamed up with Ronald Reagan (who plays George Custer), and Errol was a major "Chick Magnet" Australian, like me !)

Now to the point I wanted to make... Sadly, Ronald Reagan passed away in 2004; or perhaps this was a blessing. I mean, can you imagine if Ronald Reagan had lived to see what was going on in Americ today, in 2022 ? What would he say when he saw the diabolical spectacle of a full-blooded, revolutionary Marxist administration in the White House- led by a Democrat "President" who was a lying, crooked, half-wit with worsening dementia and deviant, hair-sniffing, child- groping, sexual paraphilias.

What would Reagan have to say about the series of extreme, Marxist policy he had deliberately launched upon his own country in an attempt to destroy the Founder's great American experiment - to shred the values of the "Declaration of Independence" and the "Constitution/Bill of rights". I don't think he'd say anything. Like George Custer in "The Santa Fe Trail", Reagan would draw his six-shooter (in a split second) and gun Biden - (and his motly Marxist crew) - down for the dirty, treasonous dog's that they are !

Dachshund

DLM....Dachshund Lives Matter ! :ausflag::usflag:

If Ronald Reagan saw what you morons have done to the political party he once represented, he would vomit.

That is what would upset him.

He was easily the greatest president of my lifetime.

Although I voted for him in his first election, he is FAR from the greatest president of my lifetime...and I am 85 years old.

Some of his comments were the direct precursors of today's troubles.

As discussed you could find this on the Republican side as well but check out this '92 Clinton/Gore Ad. There is zero chance something even close to this would be run today.

Quite the add. I'd about vote for him right now over any of the repubilcan offerings given those "promises" ;)

Haha. It is funny/interesting how we view things at the time vs with the benefit of hindsight. Republicans of course strongly disliked/hated the Clintons (as every party does the opposite President). Rush Limbaugh, I believe, used to do a daily number announcement of days America was being held captive by the Clinton Administration.

Yet looking at it today if there is to be a Democratic President Republicans would love for it to be a Bill Clinton compared to an Obama or Biden (or Sanders, Warren etc.)

The hatred of Reagan in the modern Republican Party is just shocking. Reagan used to be seen as the patron saint of Republicans, but now is mostly hated by Republicans. It just shows how far to the right Republicans have gone that they consider Reagan to be way too liberal.

that might be for todays republicans, but I felt that way about him on May 20, 1986..............pretty sure that's not modern day republican

There are younger Republicans? I guess there must be one or two... Maybe even three.

I cannot imagine Reagan looking at the Neo-Nazis, and agreeing with trump that they are very good people. Reagan did not like the crazy younger trump.

I don't give a damn about any of that...........the fucker ignored the 2nd Amendment and signed the FOPA which basically banned machine gun ownership, unconstitutionally

I am just surprised by the strong hatred most modern Republicans have for both Reagan, and Lincoln. There was a time both were loved.

Ahh, but remember that it was Ronnie Raygun who lifted the tent flaps and let the fringe/fundamentalist christian preachers have a seat at the table. How'd that work out for the country?

Who are the modern Republicans who hate Reagan? Or Lincoln? (Hint: it’s not Republicans trying to remove Lincoln’s name from schools, monuments etc.)

Hmmm, I'm not to sure. They don't call him "Slick Willy" for nothing. For all the crap he pulled, he did leave a balanced budget and a surplus.....which the Shrub immediately pissed away with reaganomics on steroids and a bogus war Iraq.

I didn't vote for his second term, and I sure as hell wouldn't vote for him if he could rung for a 3rd term. But remember, in his parting address leaving Office, Slick stated that if he could run again, he'd wins hands down. I dare say he might've been right, given the approval rating he had leaving office. Scary.

Clinton was good, no doubt (in terms of Slick Willy) but in this day and age there is no chance someone could call themselves a new Democrat and call out welfare and support the death penalty. It would never fly.

You might be right regarding the death penalty, given the periodic expose of corrupt/inept convictions in the courts and their sentencing.

And also, given his "workfare" set up, you are probably dead on target. But all I can say is THANK GOD for the 2 term limit!
