Never understand why they've never made a Catcher in the Rye film. I mean, holy fuck, they made Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance, The Trial, even Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!
Apparently there's a simple explanation. JD Salinger would never allow a film to be made whilst he was alive. His short story Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut was adapted into a film called My Foolish Heart. The final product was a critical flop that deviated from the plot of the novel. Salinger never again allowed any of his work to be adapted to film.
