Sen. Ted Cruz had one word — “spectacular” — for Giorgia Meloni’s victory speech after her far-right party won the most votes in Italy’s national election Sunday, leaving Meloni poised to become the European country’s first female prime minister.

The Texas Republican tweeted out his response to Meloni’s speech early Monday, linking to a video of her address as a right-wing coalition led by the Brothers of Italy party won a majority in the elections.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also praised Meloni’s speech, though Greene misspelled the prospective new prime minister’s first name.

“So beautifully said. Congratulations to Giorgio Meloni and to the people of Italy​,” Greene said on Twitter.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) tweeted that he and his Republican colleagues are ready to work with Meloni as she takes the helm of the Italian government. ​



“Congratulations to Giorgia Meloni and the winners of the Italian elections. We look forward to working with her and other Italian leaders to advance our shared interests. America is stronger when Italy is strong, sovereign, prosperous, and free,” he said.

Since the end of World War II in 1945, Italy has had 69 governments, at an average of one every 1.11 years.

Modern conservativism is classical liberalism, not leftist fascism.

Classical liberalism is a political ideology and a branch of liberalism that advocates free market and laissez-faire economics; civil liberties under the rule of law with an emphasis on limited government, economic freedom, and political freedom.

Mussolini was editor of Avanti (Forward). Obama honored him by choosing Forward as his campaign motto and erecting Roman columns as background for his speech.

The idea that liberalism comes in two forms [classical and modern] assumes that the most fundamental question facing mankind is how much governments should intervene in the economy. But when instead we discuss human purpose, Adam Smith and J. M. Keynes are on the same side. For Smith, mercantilism was the enemy of human liberty. For Keynes, monopolies were. It makes perfect sense for an eighteenth-century thinker to conclude that humanity would flourish under a free market. For a twentieth century thinker ... government was an essential tool to the same end.

"Orwellian Left" is closer to the truth than you think. ORWELL was a socialist - a strong supporter of the post-1945 British Labour govt.

How do you explain that? The author of 1984 hated liberty, perhaps? Have you read any Orwell apart from his big hits?
