‘Epic Fury’ renamed as ‘Operation Freedom’ in attempt to convince the gullible

The operational name change also reframes the US-Israel war of aggression against Iran as a humanitarian issue rather than what it has been from the beginning - an unambiguously offensive campaign of death and destruction.

Speaking about the US military claims about targeting "speedboats of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps" in the Strait of Hormuz, south of Iran, our military rejected the American narrative; there was not any attack on IRGC vessels.

It has been determined that the American aggressor forces had attacked 2 small boats carrying civilians that were moving from Khasab on the coast of Oman towards the coast of Iran,” the source added.

5 unarmed civilian passengers were martyred in the cowardly US attack.

America must definitely be held accountable for their crime.

US Central Command helicopters were used to destroy the small private vessels.

This latest outrage is part of Trump's so called "Project Freedom", which Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has correctly described as “Project Deadlock”.

Trump’s ‘Project Freedom’ doesn’t make sense as a ‘humanitarian’ mission

This slapdash operation seems more like a gimmick to sell the war at home — and a cover for something darker.

Typical of Trump’s policy rollouts, this operation has been so slapdash that it has been difficult to assess whether the plan’s flaws are a sign of incompetence or darker motives.

One can already see why Trump’s “humanitarian” operation will likely fail. In order for an estimated 2,000 ships, which represent over 80 countries in total, to feel safe running Trump's Persian Gulf blockade, their crews would need to hear from more than just one party of the conflict that it’s OK to pass through.

  • Already, maritime trade organizations have pointed out that they have scant details to assess the safety of trying to pass through the strait.
  • Oil tanker captains have reported that their companies continue to believe the US blockade is too dangerous to pass through.
  • Hapag-Lloyd, a large container shipping company with many ships stuck in the Persian Gulf, said its “risk assessment is unchanged.”

“Project Freedom” could be seen as the Trump administration’s desperate bid to find a winning narrative about a war that has spiraled out of its control.

In this scenario, we can imagine the administration coming up with the idea of a so-called humanitarian mission to sound productive and authoritative and to give Trump a sense of movement as a negotiated end to the conflict remains out of reach. It also functions as a (short-sighted) tactic to try to bring down global oil prices by suggesting that maritime trade in the region could start back up.

In his mission to find a leg up on the country, Trump may be digging himself further into a hole.

Trump’s War on Iran Crisis Reveals “Limits of American Imperial Power”

Middle East history professor Toby Jones reveals important insights about the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, where a blockade by the United States has disrupted shipping and the wider global economy.

Jones says this latest conflict is part of a decadeslong project by the United States to exert imperial control over the oil-rich region, but that it’s now in danger of a strategic loss signaling a deeper decline.

“Through an unprovoked assault on Iran, Trump has accelerated, or at least clarified, the real limits of American imperial power,” says Jones. “He’s definitely put the United States in a much more vulnerable and weakened position globally as a result of this war.”

Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said a “new equation” is emerging in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the US and its allies themselves have endangered maritime security and energy transit through their actions.

In a message posted on his X account, Qalibaf said the security of shipping and energy transit has been put at risk by the US and its allies through aggressive warfare and the imposition of a naval blockade on the Persian Gulf.

“Nevertheless, their evil will certainly be reduced,” the Iranian speaker added.

Qalibaf further stated that Iran is fully aware that continuation of the current situation is intolerable for the United States.
