It seems one FL senator has lost his mind

It's only a bill containing one really bad idea, that probably won't got anywhere, but....

Florida bill would require bloggers who write about governor to register with the state

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.

Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.

In the bill, Brodeur wrote that those who write “an article, a story, or a series of stories,” about “the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, a Cabinet officer, or any member of the Legislature,” and receives or will receive payment for doing so, must register with state offices within five days after the publication of an article that mentions an elected state official.

If another blog post is added to a blog, the blogger would then be required to submit monthly reports on the 10th of each month with the appropriate state office. They would not have to submit a report on months when no content is published.

One of DeSantis’s good friends! Do you believe he did this without approval?

That's not how rights work. "I" don't have to make a case for why rights shouldn't be restricted. "You", if you want to implement a restriction/limitation/requirement, have to justify why it's necessary and constitutional.

Where did I say I wanted that? You can't comprehend beyond what's inside your head can you? Every right we have has restrictions do they not?

Pissy? Not at all. If you don't see an inherent issue with having to register with the government, in order to exercise free speech rights, there's no possible way we are going to find any common ground on this specific topic.

Actually, it is not a matter of finding "common ground" with Yakuda. It is just that you would have a better chance of reasoning with your car than with him. A sack of rocks would be more yielding to logic and reason than he.

I used quotes because I wasn't saying literally you and I.

Here is your comment: "Ok then make your case for which rights can be more restricted than others and why."

I don't support this restriction... something I thought the thread title made clear. So, since I don't support this restriction, I have no need to make a case for why this right or that right can be more restricted. That responsibility would fall on the person who's trying to implement the requirement/limitation/restriction.

That's been explained to you already

No, actually it hasn't. Your response to this proposed legislation is "what's wrong with that" To me, the idea that you should have to register with the government to utilized your free speech rights is insane. If YOU disagree, then you should make your case since, as you implied, there's nothing wrong with it.

Yes it has been explained but you don't comprehend it. Not the same thing. I asked you before if you know what precedence means? Do you?

Same with the way, they punished, Disney, but since DeSantis did it directly, they won’t criticize him

You don't seem to mind when people you disagree with are punished. This is why leftists are vermin. Leftists game leftists rule you people just dont like when the rules are applied to you.

You got an Example lying Trumpper? (oops I’m being redundant again.)

I love how you frame your racist, hateful, bullshit, fascist bigotry as a mere harmless political position that people disagree with.

You're not a victim for being a hateful, pathetic piece of shit.

Here are all of your posts in this thread, prior to today's posts. Which one explains why you believe it's acceptable for the government to require someone to register with the government to exercise their free speech rights:

1. What's wrong with it?
2. Why? The govt forces registration to exercise other rights. Is this one sacrosanct?
3. So you're pissy with me because I use your argument against you? This is why leftists are intellectual midgets. If you retards could think instead of react there may be the possibility of discussion but as it is you cant think.

So you don't know what precedence means. You could have just said that. You believe the right to free speech rights has restrictions as you said there are slander and liable laws. Do you agree with those laws? That's precedence whether you do or dont. Do you think gun ownership should have restrictions?

I do know what precedence means. If you recall, I provided the examples of slander and libel as examples of precedence for limitations on free speech. Yes, I agree with libel and slander laws.

Now, why do you support the government requiring people to register to exercise their free speech rights? I hope you don't support that simply because there are other situations where free speech are restricted, because that would be silly.

You didn't answer if you thought gun ownership should have restrictions.

I don't support them but I don't want someone who supports some limits on free speech to complain about other limits on free speech. That makes no sense. And if I have to register with the govt to exercise my right to gun ownership then again i don't want to hear complaints about registering with the govt to exercise other rights.

Correct. It has nothing to do with the topic of the article I posted.

I don't support them but I don't want someone who supports some limits on free speech to complain about other limits on free speech.
Right, we should just be absolutists, regardless of the real-world impact.
That makes no sense.
Actually it does. Libel and slander laws, which are limits on free speech, absolutely make sense, while requiring bloggers to register with the government makes no sense to anyone who has respect for free speech rights.
And if I have to register with the govt to exercise my right to gun ownership then again i don't want to hear complaints about registering with the govt to exercise other rights.
Great. The article/topic has nothing to do with guns.
