If we start allowing some states to secretly ban books, or arrest people in secret laws, then all states will lose their freedom sooner or later.

Lets say that Florida decides to make a law about posting against DeSantis. The Full Faith Clause of the Constitution would require Pennsylvania to extradite me to Florida. The time to fight this is at the beginning, not from some concentration camp in the Florida swamp.

Or put another way, you say that the textbooks used in Florida, and Pennsylvania are full of secret teachings that are destroying America. Wouldn't it be good for me to know about them?

DeSantis made it public when his office issued a press release and he made a speech. This blowup isn't about education but about scoring political points with vague attacks on liberal areas of the culture, such as public education, and employing code words like "woke" and "grooming". Trump is a master of this deliberately thoughtless approach and DeSantis not only is following in his wake but might outdo him.

Oh gee some math books didn't make the mark to be considered to be purchased by the state of Florida. Big deal. The state of Florida ALWAYS rejects the majority of math books that they review. No big deal. Rewrite the areas of the book that the state objects to and resubmit submit them again next year. Math books like the news should be right down the middle. You wouldn't want math books with a pro MAGA Trump slant.

You claim that DeSantis has evidence that American children are being brainwashed for evil, and is withholding it... I would think you would be outraged.

I still believe this in particular will blow over. DeSantis will fight for as long as he can, with taxpayer dollars, to keep the specifics secret. When he fails, he will give in and unban all the books.

But in the long term, it will have dire consequences. DeSantis will continue to fight to bring down American freedom.

And even in the short term there are issues. The northeast is stuck paying a lot in federal taxes to prop up Florida.
