Lapid Expected to Renew Calls for Two-state Solution in UN Speech
The longstanding solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been sidelined by governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu and Naftali Bennett
Israel's Prime Minister Yair Lapid is expected to express his desire to advance a two-state solution in his address to the UN General Assembly on Thursday, after years of the longstanding solution to the Israeli-Palestinian laying dormant.
On the eve of the November elections, Lapid will express his support for reaching a political solution with the Palestinians.
"An Israeli prime minister hasn't said this at the UN plenum for many years," sources close to the prime minister said.
According to the sources, Lapid will also present the risks of pursuing such a solution, and stress that he will not "endanger Israel's security by a millimeter," and will call for a "separation [from the Palestinians] from a position of strength."
