Disagreed. Such texts provide clues. Perceptions of the learned people of the times. Balancing those perceptions with fact is the hard part.

Let's not forget that the city of Troy was a myth until Schliemann and Calvert dug it up. Sure, there's little to no evidence the events related in Homer's the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey" are true, but most myths often do have a factual, historical basis.
