The importance to Americans of clarifying that the Old Testament is a work of fiction is that the beliefs of Evangelists and Christian Zionists are based on hogwash. I have never seen anyone on this forum claim that Exodus is a historical and factual rendering of literally true events.

There is no shock value in identifying the united monarchy as a rather small mountain kingdom.

I don't think anyone's jaw will hit the floor to learn the ancient Hebrews were not strict monotheists until about three thousand years ago.
