Your evidence is very thin to impugn the religion as you are, and as being differentiated from any other religion. As has been pointed out - and will continue to be pointed out - every religion has violent elements, and those who use the religion for their own agenda.
Right, Muslims living in a first world country are probably pretty chill, but that does not address the total population of muslims and that's a small portion compared to Muslims worldwide. The u.s. does a good job of distilling every core believe down to nothing

Your 'evidence' is nothing. It's people responding to a poll question, as some think they are supposed to. It doesn't mean that they themselves are violent.

Yet there are plenty where there is as well. Off the top of my head: Egypt, Syria, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, India, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Chad and Mauritania. Oh and I forgot Southern Thailand.

Why do some people go to such great lengths to deny that apostasy, homophobia and segregation of women are basic tenets of Islam in many countries?
Baloney, ever religion morphs. Christianity was once barbarous and I contend if we allowed it, it would become so, once again. It is only our secular rule law that keeps the barbarians at bay.

Homophobia and segregation are tenets of the societies and existed long before religion came to those societies. I was reading this story just last night. The father married off his daughter and forced her to remain with the brutal husband because of "honor". None of this had to do with religion, it was cultural. Then when the girl went to get the divorce, the father claimed she was 13 years old, not 10.

i don't deny for one moment that it is cultural but much of it is also enshrined in Islam as well, certainly apostasy and homophobia. Islam doesn't have a monopoly on homophobia as Uganda amply demonstrates. Having said that, there is no penalty precribed in the Qur'an for apostasy. As for homosexuality, again the Qur'an has little to say but the Hadiths say this:
"When a man mounts another man, the throne of God shakes."
"Kill the one that is doing it and also kill the one that it is being done to." (in reference to the active and passive partners in gay sexual intercourse)

yeah, it's ridiculous. I have been very vocally anti-religion on here for quite some time but the only time I have people collapsing over themselves to go against me is when I attack islam. Never been called a christophobe.
If there was a poll that had 20% of conservatives say they want to kill obama or 20% of conservatives think obama is a kenyan every fucking myopic liberal idiot on this board would be posting thread after thread about it. They are ideologues, plain and simple. It actually bums me out because I realize more and more I waste my time with people on here that aren't interested in evidence but instead just wish to advance their agenda at any cost. That is a very sad story. I feel your pain.
I don't care about Islam more than Christianity, or vice versa. I'm fairly against organized religion, and think most religions have their violent, agenda-driven elements (Buddhism and a few others might be exceptions). I just don't think that Islam has more of those than Christianity - certainly not historically, even counting fairly recent history.
Your poll is silly. It's not "evidence" of anything. It's certainly not evidence of 20% "wanting" to kill, as you keep arguing in the dopiest fashion imaginable.
