There's a few things that come to mind on this issue; #1 is the failure of the American school systems to educate people. #2 is the failure of American political leaders to earn trust from Americans on issues. A politician can't lie for months calling others traitors, Chinese or Russian stooges, etc then expect to be believed when a crisis crops up. Throwing in politicians like Trump and Santos only makes it worse.
