Is Trump effectively a third party candidate?

Darth Omar

Russian asset
He's taken on both establishments and has been rejected by both establishments.

Isn't that what a third party candidate would do?

He's going to be a Republican lap dog, but only when he's not turning over US intelligence secrets to the Kremlin.

No. He was the Republican candidate, and now the entire Republican establishment is behind him.

If they are, it's only because they fear the political consequences of not getting behind him.

Even many of his establishment critics say he's republican in name only. That makes Trump effectively third party.

His rhetoric today was about as populist as you can get. It was definitely third party-esque. Now if he governs the same way remains to be seen.

It would have been the same if Bernie won also right? He is not a Democrat. Just ran on the ticket.

That's the part I'm really interested in.

But it's really remarkable what he managed to pull off: Trump marginalized the media, and the pollsters; he took on both sides of the establishment and dispensed with both the Clinton and Bush dynasties. He could literally quit the job and walk away from it, and it would still be historic.

I'm not saying it was his intention, but hijacking a major political party to run as an independent, while playing both sides against the middle, would be pretty slick.

pretty much. It's hard to give an exact description -he is definately anti-DC establishment -but needs to work with the establishment.

It's a re-alignment ..see how it shakes out.

How can you be so stupid. He is not embraced by the GOP elites or most party leaders.

He is definitely a TP running on the only platform that could get him elected. He tried to run TP and it failed. Ross Perot tried and failed. Trump took the only route he could.

You are an idiot. I understand more fully now why you thread ban me. Than you, it is an honor.

Can the political class even allow Trump to have any success? If they do, they risk losing their clout. If a zero-experience candidate can get elected and do well, their expertise looks a lot less expert.

President: So easy, Trump can do it

The bolded describes basically every newly elected President.

Trump was the Republican candidate. He is not 3rd party.

Yup.
They mat continue to call it the gop but it's not the same.
It evolved where the donkeys, as I suppose you could have predicted dug in their heels and refused to acknowledge the people. Donkeys are known to be stubborn.

Indeed. He's neither a conservative or a liberal.....his ideology exists on either side of the political medium...not going to extremes on the left or the right, but sticking to the rule of law. He successfully ran as a 3rd party candidate under the GOP banner....dragging along on his coattails a group of screaming republicans....that finally saw the light AFTER THE ELECTION. The sad part is the fact that it was the Libertarian party that attempted to destroy him....when he might turn out to be their best friend. I am just a blue dog that was glad to see someone place the final nail in the Clinton Machine political coffin. I have my doubts about the Donald...but if he can deliver only half of what he promised...more power to him, its about time we saw someone come along that's equal to the narcissism in the press.
