Is Ron Paul Retarded?

That's not what he said. What he said was that large-scale government solutions to the problem that are conceived in panic could cause more harm than good and be used for political reasons rather than a practical one.

Mass inoculation, as he mentioned from the 70s, killed and harmed more people than the illness itself.

There's nothing retarded, or particularly ideological or extreme about what he's saying. He's just raising some good practical points about the way government can seize on a crisis and simply make the situation worse. That's not to say there's no place for government in a crisis, but a crisis in progress is also not meant to be an invitation for government to place itself everywhere.

We need to start making the inoculations, because of the very real precedent of 1918... however, at the present time, there is not enough data to draw a conclusion.

Of course, Ron's a dumbass... we should not listen to him, and make sure we listen to the recommendations of the smart people. I hope I have enough pringles to last me through the next three weeks though as I hole up in my bedroom, I might even wrap myself in plastic wrap and duct tape for extra measures. Swine flu won't get me!!!

This is inane. I know you can't remember it, but the first time Swine Flu became a "pandemic" 1 person in the US died from the flu, 26 died from the inoculations before they finally cut them off. We don't need to rush into an inoculation for this flu. And we need to be really careful what we start calling a "crisis" nowadays with Mr. "Never let a good crisis go unused" in the Administration.

Over 100 have already died of this flu. And 50 million people died in 1918. No innoculations made then, because of course, you can't trust the government with that stuff. So it's 50 million for your side versus 26 for mine. I win.

We need to rush into making the innoculations.

Is that what the generic talking point of the day is Damo?

That never let a good crisis go to waste bit is from Milton Freedman, who you see on Ron Paul's wall in that video.

In the US, only one.

Just like the last time. No inoculations have been made because you need a new inoculation for each new strain of the disease. Even in some years they guess wrong and the inoculations they give are worthless.

We do not need to rush into making inoculations. It was foolish then, it is still foolish now to rush. Ford went out and even spoke of how important it was, you are taking Ford's side BTW, and then later we found he wasn't quite right. The rush for the new inoculation caused many times the deaths that the flu did in the US.

It's also the current Chief of Staff. It's not like people can't take on the ideas of another, state them, and follow them if they understand that it is a way that the government can get things passed they otherwise can't (Friedman spoke of this concept, not the use of it, against the use of it.)

Don't be obtuse. I know it is your Modus Operandi, but you can do better than this.

And BTW, Rahm Emanuel is not Milton Friedman. In this video the concept and its use is directly outlined by the current Chief of Staff as he speaks on how you can get stuff passed you otherwise never could have. It is the reason that everything, from the "War on Poverty" to Social Security is a 'crisis'...

Ron Paul can do more good for America by staying a doctor instead of becoming president.
