Is race mixing a bad thing?

Nonsense, her name is Nimrata Nikki Haley. I go by my middle name too. I'm not trying to hide anything and neither is she.

My father's first name was Yuri, and he never tried to use another name to fit into white Anglo-Saxon Protestant America.

I actually don't begrudge Nimrata and Piyush Jindal for ditching their Hindi first names to become known as Nikki and Bobby. Children are cruel and there is a lot of pressure on immigrant kids to fit into a "normal" American social framework.

I think the way Nimrata and Piyush ditched their family's Hindu religion to become christians is possibly a more questionable attempt to fit into white Christian American.

Or maybe the Holy Spirit converted them like He does so many others. Also Nikki Haley has gone by her middle names since she was born so you can blame her mother.

There are so many debating questions I thought we had moved past. Next I expect someone to ask the debating question, "is the world round?"

Well, here is my answer: race is a social construct, so does not really exist.

I think we all know it's pretty obvious why Nimrata prefers to be called Nikki and why Piyush decided to become Bobby.

Even a rightwing poster on this board said he thought Nimrata sounded like Nimrod. That's an example of the school room abuse she was in store for if she ever used her given first name.

I can't recall any prominent Jewish politicians converting to Christianity. Nimrata and Piyush's adult conversation to Christianity by ditching the religion of their families was obviously an attempt to assimilate into white Christian America. Not that there's any law against that. Immigrants have been trying to shed their heritage for centuries.

I tend to view it as a measure of personal strength and integrity when someone can be an American without ditching their heritage, e.g. their ethnic name or religious heritage --> like my father, like Barack Obama, like congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

There is a certain segment of white America to whom minorities must stay in their lane in this regard. Someone far better versed in religion can answer the question better than I but I read that "Nikki" means "little one" in Punjabi and "Nikki" is often used in a positive way to describe the youngest girl in a Sihk family. So she has gone by Nikki her whole life. But somehow all that is irrelevant and Haley is really a sell out, not a real Indian etc. because of that. (Because a real Indian would have told her Mom when she was old enough that she no longer wants to go by her middle name and chosen to go by her first.)

you did a shout out for obama and his respect for his immigrant heritiage.
Nope. You need to respond to what I actually wrote, not what you wished I wrote.

I did not even use the word immigrant with respect to Obama. He does have an ethnic heritage apart from the white Anglo-Saxon norm though.

You need to start paying me $$ if I am going to continue to improve your reading comprehension
