What about this verse? “... and let not the enmity of a people incite you to act otherwise than with justice. Be always just, that is nearer to righteousness” (5:9).

I never claimed there aren't peaceful verses in the Koran. That said, Muslim jurists use the principle of abrogation where prior verses are cancelled out by latter ones. So if Mohammed uttered a peaceful verse in Medina, it is abrogated by a violent verse uttered in Mecca after he slew the polytheists.

Then there are the Hadith which are later writings that came after the Koran. I absolutely don't consider myself an authority on the subject. Interpreting the Bible is tricky enough and the Islamic scriptures are even more complicated by the looks of it.

My only point is the Muslim in the OP isn't equivalent to the Westboro baptists. There might be a score of those idiots. But the number of Muslims who believe apostates should be killed; or that unbelievers should be killed or made subservient to Muslims, are in the tens of millions.

Just look at what's going on in much of the world.
