Iraq mistake!

This is one of the reasons I love politics, if I wait long enough almost everyone eventually agrees with me.

2003-2007 the most hotly debated issue in this board or its predecessor was the Iraq war. I was one of the very few against the war, and I was called all kinds of names for it, including unpatirotic. I was told I did not support the troops and did not love America.

Flash forward to today, at a forum on national security, with an audience made up entirely of Military Vet's, BOTH Republican and Democratic presidential canididates tried to one up each other about what a big mistake invading Iraq was. Clinton apoligizing for her mistake and Trump lying about his position.

I am almost always right, it just takes the rest of the world a few years to catch up sometimes.

Sure....every politician would have a 100% approval rating if they could make decisions based on hindsight. That's the problem...we need people who can see past their nose, or more specifically, their special interests when making such consequential decisions.

If Clinton learned from her mistakes that would be one thing..Instead she was instrumental in the same regime change of Libya.
ISIS in Iraq...ISIS in Libya..arming the Syrian rebels..

I was against our action in Libya, but that's an extremely simplistic comparison.

I was in the same boat at the time.

A lot of us were. It was not an easy thing to oppose that war.

And now, it's like this collective amnesia on the right. I mean, they're supporting a guy who calls invading Iraq a huge blunder whenever he can.

To hear some of the biggest cheerleaders, like Hannity & Giuliani, still try to lecture all of us about foreign policy & who will make us "safer" and all of that is truly offensive. Hannity should never be allowed to speak about foreign policy again.

I was totally opposed to that so-called "Bush Doctrine". One just doesn't go arbitrarily invading sovereign countries because of a perceived threat. It was very easy for me. Except for perhaps all the shit I got.

Maybe I should be president!

Hindsight is 20/20. The Iraq war was a failure because Iraqi's embraced AQII and not democracy. Rather fight sectarian wars and settle old scores.

If they united, formed a coalition democratic govt, kicked AQ's butt, sold us cheap oil in return, and became a strong ally in the region, you'd be singing a different tune.

This has NOTHING to do with hindsight.

We told you - correctly - in 2003 that war should always be a LAST RESORT. That when you commit forces, you open a Pandora's Box of possibilities, and might be getting into a situation you can't get out of. We told you it was a mistake. WE knew. Why didn't you? Why did you need the benefit of "hindsight," and we didn't?

Gore Vidal called the USA the United States of Amnesia, which sounds about right.

You weren't the only one, I was 100% against the 2003 war although wasn't on this forum then. The focus should always have been Afghanistan, completely crazy to attack Iraq just because you could due to thecwindow of opportunity afforded by 9/11.

Oh please. You people were just anti-war peaceniks, pretending you were "right." As if you had some crystal ball back then and knew what was coming. I didn't hear any libs say that IRaqi's would turn on each other and start a sectarian civil war, and embraces ISIS.

If someone did, then I give them props. You were right by default.

Plus Obama is to blame for the rise of ISIS. So their is IRaq mess on his face too.

You don't have to predict the specifics to be right. You just have to know that war is a completely unpredictable option, and should only be a last resort.

The way righties talked about it than was so casual & careless; in & out in 6 months. And you still haven't learned the lessons. It's depressing to hear you guys talk now. It would be nice if just ONE of you owned up to how mistaken you were (Laura Ingraham - to her credit - is the only one who I have heard talk about it that way).

I was on board with the war at the time, although I was still young. But 9/11 left Americans wanting revenge. And A-Stan, lets face it, just wasn't cutting it. Bombing caves? Come on.

More action needed to happen. What IF we didn't take out Saddam. Say he is still the dictator today. ANd he develops nuclear weapons to combat Iran's nuclear weapons. Now we have 2 nuclear armed enemies in the ME. IS that better or worse than today?

Pathetic. We wanted "revenge", so we invaded & engaged in a 10-year war w/ a country that had nothing to do w/ 9/11.

And spare me "what if" scenarios. We created a power vacuum in the Middle East, and now we have ISIS. And sorry - but that's on Bush.

Please do not vote.

You're an idiot.

if it was just about retarding AQ..sure..but we got involved in a civil war.
Then we had to nationbuild..at what point do we pull out? If we do right now the Afghan government will fall.
If we wait till laterthe Afghan gov't willfall.

As much as we want to see Afghan stabilize..it's only held together with US air combat roles
