Inflation soars 8.3% in April, hovering near 40-year high

we are 3rd highest of developed nations
How is it Trump managed to get millions of jobs back with no (2%) inflation and Brandon gets in and it blows up?

When you say where we're ranked, you're admitting that it's a global issue.

It wasn't a global issue when Trump was in office. He wouldn't have been able to hold this off. If you want to try to make an argument that he'd have us 1% lower or something, it would have more validity.

Once again, the level of economic stupidity on the forum just blows my mind. There will be no inflation when people are saving, as they were during the pandemic. Because there was not a lot to do. Now that buoying power is being unleashed on an economy that has supply shortages everywhere. And yet anatta compares one time frame with another without making any distinction as to the economic climate and how it affects consumer spending. He demonstrates once again that he needs to keep his day job selling Lindell's pillows over the phone.

Inflation cooled on an annual basis for the first time in months in April, but rose more than expected as supply chain constraints, the Russian war in Ukraine and strong consumer demand continued to keep consumer prices running near a 40-year-high.
Corporate profits...Up.

Oil profits...Up.

Why do you hate Capitalism?

He just gave a list of reasons for inflation, NONE of which have anything to do with the Biden Administration.
They all do. They said nothing when trump's tariffs drove the cost of appliances up 20%, and increased wait times by 6 months.

The entire problem in a nutshell, coupled with corporations taking advantage of a bad situation.

trump got millions of jobs back? Was that just before his bungling of the trump virus cost millions of jobs in this nation?

Count the number of executive orders Brandon signed during his first week in office and reverse every one he signed. Then have that fucking idiot gather all the energy producers, and car manufacturers and tell them he made a yuge mistake in telling them he was going to put them all out of business by mandating a 40 mpg average in three years or shutting down coal plants, and not even looking at small nuclear plants like what gives France 70% of their required energy.
Less than a year ago this moron in the WH stopped a mine in northern MN that had the potential of providing millions of tons of nickel and copper. These green new deal people have their heads up their ass and Brandon is told he must follow their lead as opposed to logical long term thinking.

I get many of the malcontent lefties hated Trump and I was never a fan of how he went about business BUT, that fucker had this country running like a Rolex Yacht-Master and that was in the face of the democrats doing everything in their power to bring him down, all to no avail and much of it now found to be bullshit.
How do you cram so much stupidity into one post?

The mythology of Trump is ridiculous. He was measurably our worst economic President in decades.
Remember when people wondered what running the nation like a business would be like?

So the Republicans found the worst businessperson in history to do an experiment.

Running a nation, and crafting foreign policy is not a zero sum game.

You would think the MAGAs would understand that

TOTAL LIES, AS USUAL.

The cost of Chinese goods went up 2-3% from the tariffs...they ATE THE REST, WHICH IS WHAT FORCED THEM TO THE TRADE TABLE, BEFORE THE CHINADEM PANDEMIC AND SHUTDOWNS.

Make up some more LIES.

Inflation cooled on an annual basis for the first time in months in April, but rose more than expected as supply chain constraints, the Russian war in Ukraine and strong consumer demand continued to keep consumer prices running near a 40-year-high.

The Labor Department said Wednesday that the consumer price index, a broad measure of the price for everyday goods including gasoline, groceries and rents, rose 8.3% in April from a year ago, below the 8.5% year-over-year surge recorded in March. Prices jumped 0.3% in the one-month period from March.

"This is another upward inflation surprise and suggests that the deceleration is going to be painstakingly slow," said Seema Shah, chief strategist at Principal Global Investors. "The focus will soon start shifting from where inflation peaked to where it plateaus, and we fear that it will plateau at an uncomfortably high level for the Fed."

Great news! The lowest inflation since last MONTH'S 8.5%.:palm: It went from 8.5% to 8.3% because gas went down a little bit. But in May gas has shot back up to the highest average price for regular ever. Next months numbers should be great <sarcasm>. Thanks Biden.

Oh and inflation was at 7.9% before Putin invaded Ukraine so yes he has had some effect but not the devastating effect that Joe has had.

Let me ask you a question Wisenheimer!

If Donald Trump was president- WHAT DO YOU THINK HE WOULD DO TO BRING INFLATION DOWN- THAT BIDEN HASN'T DONE!

You must think there is an inflation switch in the White House where the president can switch inflation on and off!

Give us two good reasons why you think Biden caused this inflation!

if we had inflation at 2 or 3 % where Trump had it inflation wouldnt be a problem it started to rise when Biden was elected with his promises of gigantimous spending
AS SOON AS HE WAS IN OFFICE it spiked and has continued to be out of control
That is ipso facto Bidens doing

What about inflation becoming a global issue when Trump was ending his term don't you understand?

What makes you think Trump - one of the worst economic Presidents we've had - would have kept it at 2-3%...well BELOW the global average? What magic fairy dust would he have sprinkled on just the American economy?

Economics. It's really a thing.

Biden added 2 trillion in new spending that wasn't needed, and fueled inflation
do you understand ipso facto means "on the face of it".
I dont have to explain why - if you dispute the facts you have to explain why not

and no Trump wasnt the "worse"-household income rose $6500 (pre-Covid)
energy was cheap and abundant.. wage gains were skewed to the lower incomes (pre-Covid)

there was no fairy dust needed. Trump got the V-shaped recovery without inflation
that the Biden adm ushered in

Biden said in his speech yesterday that Trump made less oil in his first year than Biden did in his first year. I'm sure that is true. Think about it the Obama Biden administration gave Trump a low 9,200,000 barrels a day production an the US bought a lot of foreign oil. And Trump energy policies got production up over the next 4 years to 13,000,000 barrels a day and the US bought much less foreign oil. Then Biden's energy policies caused the decrease in daily oil production 11,120,000 barrels a day.

So Obama Biden gave Trump 9.2 million a day and Trump gave Biden 13 million a day and Biden decreased it over the next year by 2.88 million barrels a day.

So yes the Biden administration produced more oil in the first year that the Trump administration BECAUSE the received a low production an the Trump administration had ramped up production. Then Trump left Biden with 3.8 million more barrels day than Trump had inherited from Obama /Biden . Biden then proceeds to reduce production by 2.88 million barrels a day by bad energy policies.

And now the Demented old fool brags his administration produced more oil the 1st year than the Trump administration did its 1st year.

It takes a year or two to increase oil production.

So explain to us what “few strokes of the pen” would have prevented inflation

A few less from the government dipshit would have saved the world from the next greater depression. Forget all that! Here it comes, tardo!

Hope you're prepared.

This is what did it:

In the name of Climate Change , people will suffer, starve, and die. Worldwide. Biden did that.

The UN only wants 512 million malleable people in the world anyway. You can be one of them, I suppose.

Take 10 minutes and learn something.

Excuse me squawk, it will take time to recover from the economic atrocities the the lawlessly hacked in tRump catastrophe created, mainly as a result of team grim reaper tRump's manufactured covid atrocity had on the entire global economy. Yet, there appears to be signs of a reversal of that atrocity:

Inflation finally shows signs of slowing in U.S.

The painful truth about Covid and the economy – Trump is to blame

“The recovery has been very strong,” Donald Trump said on Monday. Then the commerce department reported the US economy contracted between April and June at the fastest pace in nearly three-quarters of a century, which is as long as economists have been keeping track. The drop wiped out five years of economic growth.

It Was All a Lie review: Trump as symptom not cause of Republican decline

But pesky facts have never stopped Trump. Having lied for five months about the coronavirus, he’s now filling social media and the airwaves with untruths about the economy so he can dupe his way to election day.

The comeback “won’t take very long”, he reassured Americans on Thursday. But every indicator shows that after a small uptick in June, the US economy is tanking again. Restaurant reservations are down, traffic at retail stores is dwindling, more small businesses are closing, the small rebound in air travel is reversing.

What’s Trump’s plan to revive the economy? The same one he’s been pushing for months: just “reopen” it.

He wants the public to believe the shutdown orders that began in March caused the economy to tank in the first place, so reversing them will bring the economy back.

People can’t go back to work because there is very little work for them to do
Rubbish. It was the virus that caused the downturn, and its resurgence is taking the economy down again. The virus is surging back because governors reopened prematurely, before the virus was under control – at Trump’s repeated insistence.

The sequence of cause-and-effect is clear. The virus has surged most in states that were among the first to reopen, such as Florida, South Carolina, Texas and much of the rest of the sun belt."
