Tariffs, however, are a different beast. When a foreign company faces a new tariff, they've got choices. Is their widget exclusive to their country, or can it be sourced elsewhere with a lower tariff? Better yet, is there an American producer ready to step in with zero tariff? Depending on the answers, that foreign company might have to eat the tariff to stay competitive, meaning little to no price hike for consumers. In some cases, they'll slash their profit margins just to keep a foothold in the world's greatest market, ours.

And here's the kicker, if the widget isn't made here yet, foreign companies still have to tread carefully. Jack up prices too much, and an American company might start producing it, snatching that market share for good. That's why foreign suppliers are scrambling to cut deals and avoid losing their slice of the American pie.

So, dear libtard, care to explain why you're suddenly tax experts when it suits your narrative? In fact, tariffs are passed on to consumers. Trump admitted that when he talked about having 2 dolls instead of 30 and they would cost more. He finally figured it out, or what he was repeatedly told took root.
The idea that American manufacturers would quickly build plants here is unrealistic. Who do you think moved the plants abroad? The owners and execs moved for cheap, unprotected labor and almost no environmental restrictions. They are shipping the products to other countries and then to America to cut the tariffs. As Welsh said when he was running GE, He wished he could put his plants on barges and move them to wherever he could get the best deal. The power that moved manufacturing abroad is still running America.
When Ike was in power, we had very high tax rates.

And beyond that Americans do not want to pay double and triple for iPhones and dolls and most everything else and beyond that still, Magats hate of others coming to America to do the work they will not do, means those low end, low skill jobs would never get filled, creating shortages and even more price increases.

You simply will not see people with money starting to build factories when Trump is so lazy he will not use the congress he controls to try and lock in any tariffs making them harder for the next POTUS to repeal.

Even if you wanted to build that factory you would wait until the next POTUS comes it to even consider starting as they can undue everything with the stroke of a pen just as Trump put it in.

With zero certainty on if all those tariffs are largely cancelled at the end of Trumps term, Trump himself has created the situation to ensure the types of investment he wants will not get made to any large degree that is not just not theater. But he is too stupid to realize how he is sabotaging himself or he would push this all thru Congress in one of the rare times Congress can get shit done without regard for votes from the other party stopping it.
