Immigration

wouldn't it be amazingly ironic......we got the land from the Spanish grandee's by lending them money they couldn't pay back.....then we lose it by borrowing money to pay for health care that we can't pay back......

that would be a lot of voter to the party courting them, I wouldn't underestimate one of the two parties trying to make it happen.

I say open up immigration.....any alien who can demonstrate they have a job paying a living wage plus health insurance can apply for a work visa......make the employer pay a surcharge of $1 per hour worked to cover the expense of operating the immigration oversight program.....any employer who's been exploiting illegal immigrants at substandard wages to be sent overseas to work at prevailing local wages until they have earned enough money to come home....

Even legal immigration drives down wages. It's supply and demand. Borders have traditionally functioned to secure resources for the citizens over foreigners.

Invasions have been historically outlawed, and should remain so.

There's no brain drain. The ceo's just like compliant people from poor nations who have no american notions of being respected or well treated.

The U.S. is a melting pot right? Well that melting pot has included the best and brightest from around the world who have come to our universities and others who have brought their world renowned talents to work at our companies. When that talent doesn't come here either due to U.S. regulations or otherwise it is a loss to America.

We have enough brains here at home. Our corporations are just hostile fuckers who would rather seek a more desperate class of abused foreigners than pay american scientists a middle class wage.

right....we kept the Irish out in the 1820s.....the Chinese out in the 1860s.....we never had an Ellis Island (though all my grandparents walked on it).....

My man it's the President you voted for who is talking immigration reform. It's the leaders of Congress, your party, who is talking immigration reform. It's illegal immigrants themselves who want amnesty that are talking immigration reform so this talk only people on the right who just want to kill Mexicans sounds like some Watermark trolling.

Now I love Ohio but there's no freaking brain drain in Ohio. There is in the Silicon Valley. We (the U.S.) are turning away some of the world's brightest people by not giving them work visas which is harming U.S. companies and the U.S. as a whole by not letting them come here. And that has nothing to do with 'let's make me look good by accusing others of wanting to kill brown people'.
I didn't say that. I said those on the right wing who consider this a militaristic terms are the ones who really just want to kill brown people.

There is some issue with the brain drain your talking about but one of the problems there is that it was less stringent immigration laws for those coming from third world countries that allows the 911 terrorist in the country. But this is not a problem that can't be dealt with and it pales compared to the illegal immigration problem we have with the Mexican border.

When the nation's economy is growing, we can afford to absorb more people.

Immigration must be weighed against it's negative impact on the lifestyles of the currency citizenry, and adjusted accordingly. Government policies are not just a corporate wish list.

Drop the insane paranoid rhetoric and I would agree with you. Enforce the laws. Prosecute those people who employ illegals and this problem will come to a screeching halt.

You're right. Immigration reform is just a bull shit term for how to make it legal to exploit poor Mexicans for cheap labor. Fuck that!

Abso-freakin'-lutely! :good4u:

IMO all this anger against illegals is seriously misplaced. They can deport from now until doomsday but it's like cutting off the head of the Hydra, two more will come in for every one that leaves.

The best way to stop them is to stop the benefits they get from sneaking in, and that means first prosecuting the people who hire them. Pay Americans a decent wage for doing the crap jobs that illegals take because nobody here wants to do them. Fine and/or jail the business owners who hire the illegals and benefit from their cheap labor. Quit pretending that business owners bear no responsibility for contributing to the problem. Cheap illegal labor contributes to a thriving sub-economy and it's not just the immigrants who benefit from it.

The presence of the illegals depresses the wages such that nobody who lives here can afford to do those jobs.

The business owners who hire illegals pay for the elections of the corrupt policy makers.

The people must seize control and seal the border.

Out of curiousity why is it illegal for the police to ask for someone's citizenship status but not for an employer? I have a lady that cleans my condo once a month. I have no clue where she's from or whether she's legal or not. Am I suppose to ask her to show me her citizenship papers before I let her clean my pad?

Maybe because employers are supposed to pay federal taxes on their employees and need SSNs to do it. Remember how many pols got in trouble when their nannies, etc. were found to be illegal?

Yet the illegals who do the jobs also live here, spend money here and even save some to send to the folks back home. They just do with less.

Americans have an inflated sense of entitlement and think they're above certain types of work.

So am I breaking the law by paying this woman $100 once a month and not filing anything or can I assume she is an independent contractor and doing it on her own?

So you admit this type of arrangement downgrades the standard of living.

Just admit that's the goal of this administration.

You feel americans should have their lifestyles forcibly destroyed because they're predominantly white.

You don't care about laborers in general, only non-american workers.

You are a traitor to the people of the nation.

Beats me. My sis-in-law has someone coming in a couple times a month, they pay her in cash, and once I asked if she was legal they said "don't know, didn't ask."

I'll get back to you when I can afford a cleaning woman. :)

Har, nice way to build a straw man while simultaneously going off on a tangent.
