Imagine

After the 2000 election, there was a lot of demands from the left for election reform, so as to avoid the hanging chads and other flaws of old-fashioned methodologies. Some argued that this knee-jerk reaction of implementing digital media could lead to elections being compromised via hacking or software manipulation. I guess those arguments were well-founded.

All manipulation that pushed America into a system far worse than hanging chads .. by design.

Hacking would entail outside break in, software manipulation, insider work...and if machines are not connected to the outside world, hacking seems unlikely....
Software manipulation would have to be on a massive scale to be meaningful.....just a thought.

No at all....what I said was "Those DNC leaks on top of the FBI testimony was like a double tap.....no spin could fix it and the Dems went down in flames....."

Not a word about the election....Could elections be hacked....its possible, but Obama and election officials in every state say it
wasn't.....and thus far, nobody of any consequence says it was....

Thats not to say there was no voter fraud which is a different issue and I think far more likely to happen....

The voter fraud that republicans like to talk about doesn't happen. That's politics.

The potential for massive electronic voter fraud is real.

My question was whether you believe the potential for electronic voter fraud is real .. and if you do, should we not thoroughly investigate ANY threats of foreign involvement?

Voter fraud "like Republicans talk about" is real and is confirmed in just about every election, just not on a scale large enough to change presidential elections.
But certainly can effect local elections where a few votes either way can turn an election.

and yes, the potential for electronic voter fraud is real, and IS investigated and IS being looked for everywhere voting takes place.

and yes again, if it IS found or even suspected to involve a foreign gov. or even a domestic party it should be and IS investigated....

So we agree on all counts, and as of today, nothing has been found to suggest anything happened in this election cycle.

:0) I like it when we agree.

Doesn't happen often, but I still like it.

Our elections systems are damn near third-worldish.

Easily hacked.

Easily hacked, but if you read the intel they assert that an outside party can't affect an electoral outcome. Mostly because it's a matter of scale: we're not talking about the local dog catcher election but an election involving over a hundred million voters in thousands of counties and who knows how many precincts.

It's borderline impossible.

internet hacking is impossible as the machines are not on the net. I don't know how the scores are transmitted, or if they are capable of being manipulated

As to the Podesta inbox ( wiki) : reports were his password was Podest123 :palm:

Hacking the US general election would require massive coordination because the whole system is off line.

Vladimir Putin in many things but omniscient isn't one of them lol. The Russians can't even keep a working aircraft carrier afloat and they can effectively hack the US general election? Please.

It's a conspiracy theory.

Russia’s ‘Sad, Smoky’ Aircraft Carrier Fails Mediterranean Syria Mission
According to a report by the UK Daily Mail, Russia has just about given up on launching missions into Syria from its aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, following a “calamitous voyage from Russia to the Mediterranean.” Fighters and bombers from the carrier have reportedly been moved to the Syrian air base at Hmeymim.

A fighter jet slid off the deck of the carrier and was lost at sea earlier this week, the second aircraft to be lost during Admiral Kutzentsov’s deployment to the Mediterranean. Less than three weeks before that, a pilot was forced to eject from his MiG-29 fighter when he could not land, reportedly because of a malfunction of the arresting wire.

Quite the paper tiger, those Ruskies lol.

they do have modern high quality anti-missile system (S-500) http://nationalinterest.org/blog/russias-next-super-weapon-crush-america-combat-16393

Very good tanks (T-90 ) -though not as good as our M1-Abrahams.
They have decent armored personnel carriers (APG) -but not again not as good as our Stryker.

They are not push overs, but our new STEALTH destroyers (Zumwalt) and naval classes are still the worlds best.
( the new Nimitz cost $billion - it beeter be!)

I'm not too sure about Russian air; but in places like Syria even medium good air does the job.
++

The last thing we need is to get into another Cold War arms race -
and I'm encouraged that Trump is looking for detente -if not full rapprochement with Putin
