Everyone has their own reasons. Some surely did it out of patriotism and love of country. No doubt such a feeling would be foreign to you and not understood in the slightest.

How true. (R)s are the party of the defense contractors. They pay lip service to the vets, while voting to cut benefits and letting the VA -- and especially medical care for vets -- crumble into oblivion.
