I just thought it was funny that we thought the EXACT same things about it.
The important thing is the vaccine saves lives. And therefore, the lack of vaccines are killing people. This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated.
They are overstating their claim. The vaccine is very good, but not that good. And no study makes the claims they make. The author is using the study to make these claims, but studies do not make claims like that.
The basic numbers are about 500,000 people who are unvaccinated are dying a year, 25,000 people who are vaccinated are dying a year, and 50 people are killed by lightning. 25,000 is bigger than 50.
We can judge the current chances of deaths from Covid, but have no idea what the chances are over a lifetime. Comparing current risks to lifetime risks is the worst apples to oranges comparison.
We keep coming back to the fact that the vaccine reduces the chances of death from Covid by 95%, with no provable increase in risk. When few people had gotten the vaccine, you could argue that there might be an unknown risk... Billions of people have gotten the vaccine, and they cannot find a risk yet.
This has become like smoking. The unvaccinated are like the smokers who sometimes still argue that smoking does not cause cancer. You might as well argue the world is flat.

You started this thread with an extreme statement that vaccines save lives, and now are claiming there is no proof of it? You sound silly.
We know that being vaccinated reduces deaths by 95%. Those are hundreds of thousands of real lives being saved. It is not quite reducing it to the chances of dying from lightning, but it is a huge reduction in deaths.
A million extra deaths in the USA were all caused by other health issues? Where were those extra health issues two years ago? People did not suddenly get overweight two years ago. The only thing that changed two years ago was Covid.
There could be a point made that the 95% reduction is greater than it seems. Most of the vaccinated who die had months left to live without Covid. Most of the unvaccinated who die had years left to live, if not decades. The unvaccinated are losing a lot more than 20 times more life time by not being vaccinated.
Of course, the threat of COVID is greater for unvaccinated adults, but why should their personal decision to take that risk arouse so much angst among those who are safely vaccinated? The original argument for vaccine mandates — that they were necessary to stop the spread — is obsolete, now that it’s clear that vaccination doesn’t prevent reinfection and transmission. Even if vaccines might slow the spread, they won’t prevent the virus from eventually reaching everyone. If you are over 70, you want to reduce your chances of dying by 95%, because you are of super high risk. If you are under 70, you want to reduce your chances of dying by 95%, because you want your chances to be even lower.
It is very well established that the vaccine reduces death by 95%. It also appears to reduce transmission by 50%, but those numbers are less definite. The death numbers are very ironclad. There is no doubt that vaccination reduces death.

The vaccine reduces the spread by 50%. That does not appear to be enough to stop the pandemic completely, but it would be enough to save a lot of lives.
"Slowing" means less spreading. It means that every wave will infect less people, and that will mean lives saved.
The risk being very low is no justification for trying to get everyone to have a lower risk? It is like hearing someone argue that the risk to people not playing Russian roulette is very low, therefor people should play Russian roulette.
