If they were afraid…

Exactly, %@#$&$#.
Armed teachers would have stopped it.

I am on the side that says they “could” have stopped it. I suppose we are counted as a bunch of rednecks at the public school were I teach. We have one of those signs that warns that “Certain teachers and staff are armed and will take whatever steps necessary to protect our students.” I’m one of those armed teachers. It’s that type of training you go through but hope to never have to use … like CPR and defibrillator training.

I'm afraid, Rev, that the rednecks to which you prefer would be happy to squeeze public schools further by giving tax money away in the form of private school vouchers.

I think most on the left and the right would be surprised to learn that most rural “redneck” type folks are very supportive of small, rural public schools. There’s a big difference between how a rural conservative views education and how an urban conservative views it. Exposed again is the rural/urban divide, even among conservatives.

I had a great conversation with a Buffalo area JPP acquaintance years ago about the very different way we all look at things depending on where we are. While he had liberal tendencies he was very much different from say, a New York City liberal.

New audio just came out. The 911 dispatcher was telling cops kids were still alive in the room. Those fucking coward cops. How horrible for those kids. Those cops were supposed to protect them. Can you imagine spending their last few moments in terror, waiting for to die, calling for their mommies. How fucking horrible. Even the kids who survived that shit will never be the same.

Fucking cowardly cops.

I own several firearms, not one of which is remotely like an AR-15.
There is no rational excuse for private ownership of that type of weapon,
and no sane, sincere argument to refute that.

But there's not a fucking thing that we can do about it. Not one fucking thing.
A new constitution means a new country, and nobody has the balls to go that far.
People still look for moderate solutions for radical problems, and they fall closer and closer to complete dystopia because of that.
Cowardice rarely brings a good result.

the constitution can be amended, you dont need a whole new one.

Pistols are less accurate than rifles at range, and assault rifles made for the civilian market can be equipped with 30 round high capacity ammo clips to make the slaughter more lethal and efficient.

there is no range issue i school shootings and rifles are cumbersome in closed quarters.

there would be far more dead if school shooters were using hand guns or shotguns.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

A well regulated militia

So you must allow guns to be owned by the people

But it must be well regulated because it’s necessary to the security of the nation

The founders wanted it well regulated idiot

“A well regulated Militia"

It does not say, "The right of the militia to keep and bear arms" it says, "... the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".

This is because the government's ability to be able to call up a militia is the reason given that the people get to keep and bear arms so that the militia could not easily be used against the people.

These people had just fought a prolonged war against the world's most powerful military whose government tried to make it illegal for them to keep and bear arms, they were not ensuring the rights of the government's militia they were ensuring the rights of the people.

the MILITIA needed to be well regulated to maintain freedom. The RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

The left abhors the Second Amendment because it does not say, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall...be...infringed.”

Interesting.

There are definitely provisions for amending the constitution, none of which are possible with the current level of polarization.
These methods require more consensus than will be possible to attain in any of our lifetimes.

if the public wanted it, they would be telling their representatives irrespective of party.

Indeed.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

So, let's regulate that militia: tie gun ownership to defense of the state, as contemplated by that amendment. Regulate the militia with rules around what kinds of guns are prescribed, and impose actual discipline on its members: regular musters similar to what the Minutemen did, fitness requirements, training requirements, along with background checks, and gun and ammunition registration (similar to what they have in Switzerland, today). And require those guns to be locked up at home when not actually being used as part of those militia activities. If we did that, there'd be less gun mayhem in the US (again, similar to Switzerland).
