If it’s equivalent to Flu, why?

Until last week, only labs that were approved by the CDC could administer tests for the coronavirus, but the CDC opened new testing facilities for people potentially infected with the virus after an outcry from state and local governments.

While the government is touting the capacity for testing, the actual numbers are falling far short of official claims, according to a report in The Atlantic.

The report claims that only 1,895 people have been tested for the coronavirus in the U.S., and about 10% of the people tested have contracted the disease. Even with the new tests available to states and local governments, the capacity only allows for several thousand tests to be conducted — not the tens of thousands the White House has hoped for, according to the report.

Obama sat on the H1N1 for six months.

Why won’t Rumppers address this topic?

How are people on JPP supposed to know?

Have you asked the Senator?

Now, while I have your attention, why the hype? What is it about COVID-19 that sets it apart from other viruses?

Silly name calling and distraction won’t help here.

Then I'd suggest that you refrain from calling people "Rumppers", Counselor.

Now, while I have your attention, why the hype? What is it about COVID-19 that sets it apart from other viruses?

Why are the Rumppers so desperate to distract from this question?

Why do you think the question merits anything more than derision?

For one thing, Senator Cruz wouldn’t quarantine himself if he shook hands with someone who had regular flu.

Corona is different because it is new and we have not produced antibodies from previous encounters. That is a reason we have no idea if it can be controlled.

Is that so? Can you quote the Senator on that?

Is there a cure?

Is there a cure?

We have antivirals that can modify the severity of a viral illness if you take them in time, but I'm not sure how effective they are on the COVIDs or on this one in particular. Right now the best we can do is identify the patients and convince them to self-quarantine, and aggressively treat any comorbidities like pneumonia or sepsis.

I think even if test kits were handed out free like candy at Halloween, a lot of ppl would be reluctant to be tested. They don't want to be seen as Typhoid Marys for one thing. Plus most ppl cannot afford to self-quarantine for two weeks minimum. And many do not get sick days and would have to take delete pay days if they take off. They also risk losing their jobs if they can't come in.

Interesting that time tested cures and remedies have to wait YEARS before the FDA decides that they can market with declarations of they cure.....while suddenly VACCINES are being rushed through for the N1H1....a flu viruse that compared to others is NOT even exceptionally lethal.

As the old saying goes, follow the money!

You came up on my "notifications - who quoted me", so I took you out of IA to see what's all the hub bub. Fascinating that you're still obsessing over the ass whuppings I gave you in the past.

Prudent precaution is one thing....hype to the point of panic is another. From what you pasted, it's very similar to what's currently going on. What's your point?

Can you link to any alleged "ass whuppings"?

I'll understand if you can't, of course,

Are you positing that there was "hype to the point of panic" when your Messiah Obama infested the Oval Office during the H1N1 pandemic but the Chinese virus is somehow worse?

Because that's what it looks like.

So the military suffers due to Cruz's sex life? Shake hands, sure.
Corona is not the flu.

Influenza “the flu” and COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, are both infectious respiratory illnesses. Although the symptoms of COVID-19 and the flu can look similar, the two illnesses are caused by different viruses.

As of Mar. 11, 2020, the flu is showing much more of an impact on Americans than COVID-19. You can find up-to-date information on COVID-19 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Lisa Maragakis, M.D., M.P.H., senior director of infection prevention at Johns Hopkins, explains how the flu and COVID-19 are similar and how they are different.
Similarities: COVID-19 and the Flu
Symptoms

Both cause fever, cough, body aches, fatigue; sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.
Can be mild or severe, even fatal in rare cases.
Can result in pneumonia.

Transmission

Both can be spread from person to person through droplets in the air from an infected person coughing, sneezing or talking.
A possible difference: COVID-19 might be spread through the airborne route (see details below under Differences).
Flu can be spread by an infected person for several days before their symptoms appear, and COVID-19 is believed to be spread in the same manner, but we don’t yet know for sure.

Treatment

Neither virus is treatable with antibiotics, which only work on bacterial infections.
Both may be treated by addressing symptoms, such as reducing fever. Severe cases may require hospitalization and support such as mechanical ventilation.

Prevention

Both may be prevented by frequent, thorough hand washing, coughing into the crook of your elbow, staying home when sick and limiting contact with people who are infected.
Differences: COVID-19 and the Flu
Cause

COVID-19: Caused by one virus, the novel 2019 coronavirus, now called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2.

Flu: Caused by any of several different types and strains of influenza viruses.
Transmission

While both the flu and COVID-19 may be transmitted in similar ways (see the Similarities section above), there is also a possible difference: COVID-19 might be spread through the airborne route, meaning that tiny droplets remaining in the air could cause disease in others even after the ill person is no longer near.
Antiviral Medications

COVID-19: Antiviral medications are currently being tested to see if they can address symptoms.

Flu: Antiviral medications can address symptoms and sometimes shorten the duration of the illness.
Vaccine

COVID-19: No vaccine is available at this time, though it is in progress.

Flu: A vaccine is available and effective to prevent some of the most dangerous types or to reduce the severity of the flu.
Infections

COVID-19: Approximately 121,564 cases worldwide; 1,050 cases in the U.S. as of Mar. 11, 2020.

Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.
