If Hillary Clinton Wins, Foundation Will Stop Accepting Foreign Donations

Let me post this in bigger, more colorful letters for you: "And it's also illegal for candidates to solicit foreign money, regardless of whether the donations ever materialize."

so there was a blanket email that went out and nobody made any contributions and nobody accepted any contributions because they all knew it was wrong........just like Clinton, right?.......tell me this, if it would be wrong for it to continue if she is elected president, why wasn't it wrong when she was the Secretary of State or a Senator?.....

Facing criticism for some of the donations given to his family’s philanthropy, Bill Clinton said on Thursday that the Clinton Foundation would no longer accept foreign or corporate money and that he would resign from its board should Hillary Clinton win the presidency.

Mr. Clinton’s announcement, which he relayed to foundation employees in a meeting on Thursday, followed the recent release of State Department emails mentioning donors to the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation who had contact with aides to Mrs. Clinton while she was the secretary of state.

The donations have become a lighting rod in Mrs. Clinton’s campaign against Donald J. Trump, who has repeatedly implied that foreign donors had corrupted his opponent’s tenure as secretary of state. On Tuesday, the Trump campaign pointed to an editorial in The Boston Globe titled “Clinton Foundation Should Stop Accepting Funds.”

The moves come amid concern among some Clinton allies that additional details could emerge about relationships between Mrs. Clinton’s State Department and foundation donors.

Mr. Trump has already talked of a 2009 series of emails that showed Douglas J. Band, a chief adviser to Mr. Clinton, seeking to arrange a meeting between a senior American government official and Gilbert Chagoury, a Lebanese-Nigerian developer and foundation donor.

“As you know, he’s key guy there and to us and is loved in Lebanon
,” Mr. Band wrote in a message obtained by Judicial Watch, a conservative advocacy group, through public records lawsuits.

Mr. Trump said the exchange proved a “pay-to-play” relationship between donors and Mrs. Clinton’s State Department. The Clinton campaign said that its rivals had mischaracterized the exchange and that Mrs. Clinton never took action because of donations to the foundation.

But the email releases, and the potential for real or perceived conflicts of interest, have forced the Clintons to protect against further damage to her already low levels of trust among voters.

The former president also said on Thursday that whether Mrs. Clinton wins or loses, the Clinton Foundation would end the Clinton Global Initiative, an annual gathering of global leaders, philanthropists, donors and celebrities to discuss topics of international concern. It will hold its final gathering in September.

Foreign nationals and countries are prohibited from donating directly to American political campaigns, but have given hundreds of millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation, which works globally to combat AIDS/H.I.V., malaria, childhood obesity and climate change, and promotes women’s rights and other causes.

Last year, under pressure for its dealings with donors outside the United States, the Clinton Foundation said it would curb new contributions from foreign governments, but it did not discontinue fund-raising from foreign individuals, corporations or charities.

Mr. Clinton’s decisions were first reported Thursday by The Associated Press and were confirmed by Craig Minassian, a foundation spokesman. The charity will rely only on contributions from American citizens and charities should Mrs. Clinton become president, Mr. Clinton explained.

But the new provision will not necessarily ease concerns about how the foundation and its supporters would be dealt with by a Hillary Clinton Administration.

An ABC News report in June about the appointment of Rajiv K. Fernando, a Chicago-based securities trader and major foundation donor, to a sensitive State Department intelligence board in 2011 prompted a backlash by Mrs. Clinton’s political rivals. “How the Clinton Foundation Put National Security Up for Sale,” read the subject of a Republican National Committee news release.

Mrs. Clinton has improved her trust ratings recently, but 59 percent of Americans still say she is not honest and trustworthy, compared with 62 percent who say the same about Mr. Trump, according to an ABC News / Washington Post poll this month.

In recent years, the Clintons’ daughter, Chelsea, has taken on a leadership role at the foundation. Mr. Clinton had initially hoped to continue doing the same, even if he were back in the White House.

“I hope I’ll get permission to keep this foundation going,” he told Queen Latifah on her talk show in 2014, amid a packed schedule of foundation-related events, including an overseas trip with donors.

What about Bills speaking fees? What about right now? If she becomes President? What if she goes back to her Senate seat?

Right lol. But that's so easy to get around the law is nearly pointless. Well, it's not pointless if you get caught.

she was supposed to have a wall of separation. no involvement at all...except her minions ( aides) did that for her..
Obama made her sign it as part of her appointment to Sec. of State

Huma Abedin was employed by 4 entities at one time while in the State Dept.
There are these things/programs ( I have to look up the term) for multi-talented peeps
but they are for professionals, not for politicians, and their cronies.

So she'd claim she was doing this and that under such and such auspice

This closing it down is also questionable. There's multi millions of dollars payback awaiting these foreign investors once she's in the white house.

What about Bill's speaking fees? He's a private citizen, are you claiming he's not allowed to earn money from speeches?

Are you deluded? It is ILLEGAL for Trump to SOLICIT foreign money REGARDLESS of whether the donations ever materialize.

it's gonna haunt her. They are "donors" not investors -but once decisions are made that favor foreign donors
they are going to be looked at as investors.
This is why elected officials avoid the "appearance" ( circumstances) of impropriety.
Or at least should do before it became a 'catch me if you can' government

Chrispy........Chrispy?......oh, Chrispy?.......you forgot to answer.....

blanket automated emails going to people who signed up for a newsletter are NOT solicitations for foreign money........now receiving fake donations from Tibetan nuns......THAT was illegal........

We have to realize that when these 'donors' .. like from countries who persecute women, gays, Christians, and Jews, they aren't just doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, they're after something a bit down the road.

*meh* I don't care how other countries run their business, and if they wanna give - fine.
Some are relly charitable -say the majority -but that still leaves a lot of questionable foreign donors.

Why would she do that? It's not like she didn't know she was gonna run.
The Clinton Foundation got them rich and no one would have cared, but if she becomes POTUS..

The risk that Clinton’s tainted image will defeat her is small .
The much larger risk is that her lax approach to rule-following and ethical conflicts will sink her presidency.
