Hamas had this complex attack strategy where sacrificial terrorists would attack the walls, diverting the attention of the IDF, while paragliding, and windsurfing terrorists would strike deep into southern Israel.

It turns out that Netanyahu had totally hollowed out the IDF forces in southern Israel. The Hamas forces with ladders were unopposed.
