Ice T

Its usually meant as an insult when used by foreigners such as

Which originates from the song, Yankee Doodle, sung by the British soldiers to mock the American, colonial soldiers.

Are you saying it was an insult only 250 years ago?

That's some stretch.

So tell me...if the term is that racist, then how many protesters show up at the New York YANKEES ball park during a typical season demanding they pick a less "racist" name?

Yank is used over here in much the same way Limeys is in the US.

Pardon me, but we aren't "over there"...

VERSE 1:
John-nie, get your gun, get your gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them call-ing you and me, ev'-ry son of lib-er-ty
Hur-ry right a-way, no de-lay, go to-day
Make your Dad-dy glad to have had such a lad,
Tell your sweet-heart not to pine, to be proud her boy's in line

CHORUS:
O-ver there, o-ver there, send the word, send the word, o-ver there,
That the Yanks are com-ing, the Yanks are com-ing,
The drums rum-tum-ming ev'-ry where
So pre-pare, say a prayer, send the word, send the word to be-ware
We'll be o-ver, we're com-ing o-ver,
And we won't come back 'til it's o-ver O-ver There!

Does that sound like a racist slur to you?

Well, to point, the Dixie chicks angered people because they were proffering that opinion overseas in criticism of their own country in a time of war...Are we at war with our own citizens?

Good point, but we've been always been at war with our own citizens .. which is one reason why it took 364 years for blacks to be viewed as humans in the United States.

Look around and you'll see clear evidence that the Civil War never ended .. and the Dixie Chicks are just one of many examples of that truth.

On many issues of the day, the south stands alone. The south is the last bastion of the Republican Party .. which is almost non-existent in the northeast.

LOL

So when Obama invited anti-cop rapper "Common" to the White house, that was all a show for the black voters to prove Obama has street cred?

Looks like when the slaves veer to far off the plantation, you have a problem with it.

What it looks like is that you'd rather be a clown. Just my opinion of course .. but only a clown would reach for "slaves" and "plantation" in a laughable swampwater attempt to make some really dumb ass point that is too confusing to even consider.

Ignore him, he is a total racist who is disliked by virtually everybody on here. Which when you think about it is really hard to do!!

Nope. Stupid question since i was accusing the other poster as intending it as an insult today.

So tell me...if the term is that racist, then how many protesters show up at the New York YANKEES ball park during a typical season demanding they pick a less "racist" name?

You are the only one here hurling about the accusations of racism. Yank and Chinky specifies people of a certain nationality.

Hey man, not you as well. Yank is used by Brits usually in a mildly disparaging manner. You don't really think that the average Brit knows the subtleties of its origin. Oh by the way, and this will piss you off, that tune is used by an insurance website in the UK.

Maybe in some parts, but since my average group of friends/bar mates has a good 20+ years on me, I can attest that no one has ever said it in my presence except to be ironic.

I'm talking about the use of Yank not Limey, it doesn't matter if Limey is used or not these days I was just using it as an example to illustrate the point. That worked well, didn't it!

Since we are talking the wisdom of Ice-T, I thought it appropriate to offer a visual of the genius we're talking about.

Sure, I'd ask that guy what he thinks of critical issues of the day. :0)

That's his wife.
