Putin won’t have anything to do with Z because he doesn’t consider him a legitimate president so that simply wouldn’t have been possible.
Trump has already spoken with him about the meeting so he is being included. Trump will also meet face to face with Z.
The NYTimes also reports that “European leaders” (whoever that is) will also be in on the meeting.
What else could he possibly do?

I have no answers except that more than a million soldiers have died, Ukrainian and Russian.
I expect you know of a time in our history when a large country used naked aggression and invaded a smaller country, the rest of the world would unite and defeat the larger aggressor.
Those days are long gone so the pragmatic solution would be to acknowledge the fact that Russia has won some parts of Ukraine.
