When you're referring to something in the plural tense (laws with an "s") you use the word were.

Example:

I thought the new election lawS in GA WERE racist.

I thought the new election law in GA WAS racist.

The other "was" should have been "were", too.

I just want to know who the Line Monitors were that were there to arrest any of the voters who brought someone a bottle of water in those mile long lines that wrapped around entire city blocks that they had to stand in for hours- out in the rain and cold!

I didn't hear of any arrests! And no one got thrown in prison for it- that I know of!
