His intent was to take Ukraine, he’s not going to.

He’s been embarrassed on the world stage.

People are much less afraid of Russia’s military as he exposed it as weak.
 
I do not know if he will get Ukraine, or if that is his aim. He may settle for chunks of Ukraine becoming Russia. If he has destroyed cities in those areas, he will have some unhappy citizens. When you constantly tell lies and propagandize them, you run the risk of believing your own lies after a while.
