I doubt that this story is even reported in the US

Do you comprehend the definition of imperialism?

Normally it refers to the direct acquisition of territory and the subsequent control of said territory both politically and economically. OR it refers to the indirect control of economic and political aspects of a territory. Obviously as the worlds economic super power we have influence over everyone to a degree. But that would be a massive stretch of the definition of Imperialism.

What countries do you think we control economically and politically?

What about cultural imperialism?

Or tried to control, lets see, currently Afghanistan and Iraq, then there is Haiti, Puerto Rico, then at one time, with the use of the CIA, we tried to control South America, there was Vietnam and Korea. After WWII we basically were telling Japan and Germany what to do. There are those little islands in the Pacific that we kicked the inhabitants out of to put up our military bases. Those we don't invade, we try to bribe. Remember the Maine, the Boxer Rebellion, the Panama Canal. Guam, the Virgin Islands, America Somoa and the list goes on and on and I am sure we aren't done, yet!

that's exactly what it means, while I was out I got some bad news on how much the IRS will allow me to withdraw annually without penalty. So the battle goes from convincing my wife a mil is enough to funding the after tax account with enough cushion. No way I last 2 years, I doubt 1. They say 75% failure rate for addicts, and 25% with Chevrons heavy testing.
Well I already consider myself failing that test eventually so why take it.

How do you describe our aquistion of territories, states, possesions and islands?

Dude... you don't want to live in NAPA. Your bang for the buck will drain you quickly and the tax situation there is only going to get worse. If your wife likes the outdoors, I would suggest CO. Obviously I am a tad biased, but for someone who wants to live in a 420 friendly state, we are going that way in a hurry. You can easily live off a mil here. Not sure how old you are exactly, but if you are under 59.5 when you retire, I can show you how to make it work where you can get sufficient funds out early without penalty.
I thought I mentioned my wife wanted too?
Finances and weed are second to making her happy. As a couple we are a 15 ! She's a 10 and I'm a 5.

What about cultural imperialism?

Jeez; get over it.
McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Whataburger, etc.; didn't invade any countries and force them to accept them building their stores.
The fact that other countries WANT more of American culture, doesn't mean we're forcing it on them.

Did anyone check on the British board this morning, oh wait non of us give a shit. If they don't have straight teeth; do they have message boards!

Well, think back, if you can, to when the UK refused to join you in Vietnam. Can you remember what your government did?

BTW Imperialism can also be an attitude or a state of mind and, yes, you have that in spades. How dare China look in the direction of Taiwan. Who do they think they are treating Tibet in that way? Of course Merkel and Sarkozy wouldn't refuse Obama a seat at the table. Who are these Pakis anyway. Iraq? Wasn't that always yours? Israel? Another state in the union until recently.
Imperialism?? Naaaaaahhh. Of course not!

LMAO... Tibet and Taiwan? Seriously? That has to be the most absurd 'definition' of imperialism ever uttered.

Iraq is a free country. So is Pakistan. So is Israel. Again, your attempt to 'define' imperialism is woefully incorrect.

Obviously as one of the worlds super powers we are going to have influence. But pretending influence = imperialism is just pathetic.

If you want the true definition of Imperialism... just ask your neighbors in HK.

I think you find that not many HK people like living under the Chinese but they don't have much choice.

Whether they like it or not is irrelevant to the fact that they were taken by an Imperialistic British empire. It was only 12 years ago that the British finally relinquished their 'lease'.

So what you are saying is that you also don't understand Imperialism. Your Germany and Japan comments are beyond ridiculous. They LOST the friggin war. Of course there are going to be conditions for their surrender. But NEITHER did we try to take over and maintain control. Like Iraq and Afghanistan, the people in Germany and Japan chose their leaders. They continue to have free elections to this day.

The Virgin Islands were PURCHASED from Denmark.
American Samoa is self governed under their own constitution.

The Boxer Rebellion? You will have to explain what you think our influence was on that. It was over a century ago and we were not even a world power at the time.

Guam... that was from the Spanish American war ending and part of that treaty.

Panama Canal... yeah, we built it. It is under the control of what country right now?
