I'll tell the expatriates who were at the next table at lunch today that their countrymen view them with disdain. I think a couple of them came from somewhere in Virginia (?) is that a place in your part of the colonies?

I am only going by what Topper said at the time, he was playing down the oil spill until it landed in his backyard and then the Cajun Nimby came out with guns blazing. It's funny though, how many Jonahs there were at the time proclaiming all sorts of apocalyptic consequences yet a year later and what's happened? I was incredibly bemused by the self same people who were calling for drilling anywhere and everywhere were amongst the loudest moaning about it, with those on the West Coast seemingly the most bellicose. It's very simple really, if you don't want oil spills in the Gulf then ban offshore drilling, if you want to drill in deep waters, then learn the lessons and shut the fuck up whinging so much about the consequences.

BP did everything and more that was asked of them, certainly far more than most US companies which have a long track record of lying and wheedling out of their commitments as demonstrated by Bhopal and Piper Alpha. There will be another oil spill in the Gulf as sure as night follows day, will the US public be any saner about it next time, will they fuck!

I asked Topper how many British were on that rig but he was unwilling to answer, well the answer is there were none. There were seven BP employees on that rig but they were all American, but that didn't stop the Cajun blowhard from spouting his xenophobic bullshit though. BP have settled for $4 billion with Anadarko but Transocean is still using every trick in the book to avoid paying its share.

But seriously, I was once at a party, I had been persuaded to leave the union bar for an hour, and I was offered something. I smoked most of whatever it was, felt no effects, excused myself and went back to the bar. That is the sum total of my experience. Conclusion - total waste of time, money and freedom (if caught). And then to choose cutesy little names for an uninteresting product is childish, in my oh so humble opinion.

Every time you up the number of people who died. The actual total was 15 dead in 2005 in Texas and 11 who died last year in the Gulf which makes 26 in total. The Texas refinery was very old having been built in 1934 and suffered from serious under investment dating back to the Conoco era. Deepwater Horizon was a state of the art rig which had been given safety awards by the MMS, so if it was known to be so unsafe why did that happen? You blame BP, yet give Halliburton, Transocean and the MMS a pass. You are just like so many people who have the wondrous gift of 20/20 hindsight. Oh and by the way, there were no Brits on board that rig, the seven BP employees were all American.

What do you have to say about Bhopal and Piper Alpha, just two typical stories of how Yanks are such fucking hypocrites who shit all over the world and can't stop bellyaching when something happens on their own doorstep.

I believe most partners have settled and kicked in to BP which is industry practice. A moron like you wouldn't know that. Nor would you know the safety corner cutting in the well design that tras ocean objected to was the problem. So BP can blow something up they bought cause they didn't build it. Lofl, Texas has said BP' maintenance program was dog shit like English teeth and food.

I was referring to a lunch party of EXPATRIOT Americans. In Hong Kong to work in banks and education probably. Last time I looked Virginia was in your country, not mine.
